BL i will let you know but the place was open as normal, it's just that he decided to show the footy (don't blame him) but it's not normal for the TV to be on in the evenings. He did apologise to the tourists for the noise we were making but they didn't seem bothered......in fact some stayed and had another drink. :D

P.S, don't rule RM out yet, there is another 90mins to play.

Sparky... I might be treading a thin line here but..... I notice you used the word 'tourists' in the above post. Presumably you were also once a 'tourist' to P.P. but now you are steadily settling in (it takes about 50 years where I live!) as a 'local'.
As a 'local' do you look down a little on 'tourists' / or do you tolerate them (us) somewhat / or do you welcome them (us) with open arms. All us semi-regular 'tourists' on this forum really like coming to P.P. Do the 'locals' like having us..... I do hope so.

Pescador at 5ft nothing i don't look down on anyone lol!!.
Seriously i like to see the tourists enjoying themselves here, after all without them the Port would die, i love meeting new people and of course have now got to know quite a lot of regulars as well as forum members. Some have become great friends and it is wonderful to catch up with them when they are here.
Yes there are times when some people get very drunk, rude and unruly or let their offspring run wild, which makes me yearn for the end of the season but that is not too often;).
As for the real locals ie; Mallorquin/Spanish ...i can only speak for the one's i know and they welcome the tourists with open arms. :D:D

Well Sparky you are always good for a sensible answer to anyones questions; thank you very much for that and I'm sure you told it as you see it.
I am also fortunate to live by the sea in the good old North of England where we have a stunning coastline and with views to better P.P. (?) on a good day when the sea is blue.
Though it is never as consistently warm and we don't have the quality of restaurants.
As a town we also have to deal with 'tourists' but as with P.P. the town couldn't survive as it does, without them.

Sparky brought tears in my eyes Luv U xxx

Yeah,

Well it's all very well being contrite after the event but when Sparky refers to being "drunk , rude and unruly " we all know exactly who she is referring to !!

On a more serious note can we please stop referring to visitors as 'tourists '?

We are all visitors here in this lovely place , some of us luckily visiting longer than others . As Sparky says if you make the effort the Mallorquians will respond and treat you like a visitor. IMO the word Tourist just means a person to pump up the local economy.

It may be a subtle difference in words but a gulf in mindset !!

BonysLad ::):)

Erm sorry!!!! Bonyslad :o.

The definition of a tourist as taken from the Oxford English Dictionary:-
A person who travels for pleasure. ;)

BL you are a wheeze :D

The Spanish word Guiri is what we are to the locals whether we visit once a year or live there! It used to be quite a derogatory term but it isn't anymore and is widely used in all of Spain..basically means non Spanish speaking foreigner. Doesn't mean they don't like us though!

Yes Debz i have heard the word "Guiri" used but but they mostly say "touristas" and neither word is meant in a derogatory way.
It is much the same as in Cornwall and Devon where tourists are referred as "Emmets" and "Grockles" except many do use these terms in a derogatory way there.

Sincerest apologies GG, i have given myself a good ticking off.
Now to get back on track, i don't know where i will watch the 2nd leg next Tuesday but it will definitely not be a British run bar.;)

Well I have seen it all now,Crisps with both teams badges on side by side on a shelf in Al Campo

Great result, well done Barca, so wish i was over there on the 28th, where will you all watch it? just off to check Easyjet prices to see if I can make it over for a day trip, :)

Well, I'll be heading for Li'l Italy , mate !!

See if I can string Sparky along as well !!

BonysLad :D

BL i don't know if i want to watch a Champions League final between English and Spanish teams in an Italian Pizza Parlour in Mallorca.

I'm looking for a nice bar to watch the Champions League final with my lad. Any surgestions? Bony's is favourite at the moment, but also thinking of somewhere with plenty of locals watching too. Where would you watch it sws97sdg?
Come on you Barca!

Hi Kenpool, I would head for the Golden Lion down near Polly Park if you want local atmosphere, I would go tomorrow night as well for the Lavente v Barca game, they only need one point to retain La Liga, so if you are in the port tomorrow and hear car horns and fireworks going off late you will know why. If you want off topic chat on Spanish sports, La Liga especially check out the Spanish forum at the Tapas Bar (I know another shameless plug)
