History of Bonys
Dave, a bit of history -
I can remember when Bonys was transformed from a lovely cake shop into a bar. Was disappointed at the time but grew to appreciate it.
It was only when Jose was let loose on it and put in charge, that it became "the" place to be for a drink. He was always so entertaining welcoming and always had a phrase that would catch on. He even appeared, because of his "Don't Cry" phrase in one of the town guides available via the tourist information.
As the years have passed he became even more zany!! trying to be new and attract customers. Chopping tables in half so he could get more in, putting legs on trays!! wind breaks designed and made by himself in the winter when it was closed (before these he laid umbrellas down on their sides when it got too windy/rainy) , the "pegs"!!! The silly notices in the window.
He became The Pied Piper of PP by throwing sweets, both because he loves kids but also it attracts families who would get their kids entertained while they for once had a peaceful drink!!
When seen in the closed season he always was working to do something different to increase profits, he never seemed to get to the point where he or his bosses were satisfied.
I'm not sure of the exact type of contract he had with the owners, I think its owned by the Trio/Tango group, but he put his heart into it. His lust? for profit was never sated, not sure if the owners were always asking for more, too much??
As a result, in latter years its became a bit too big, so not the same attention from Jose. Too much TV/Footy (In my opinion!!) and of course higher prices (not just here) causing regulars elsewhere and leading to the two tier? pricing (exhausted in previous threads, not wishing to restart it!!)
I just wish Jose gets well soon and can be allowed to be more satisfied with his efforts and is recognised for the work he puts in by his owners. I admit I am ignorant of the problems behind the scenes, but I hope things work out and a "reasonable" contract is forthcoming for him that will not lead to ill heath in the future. Best wishes Jose, sorry I wasn't there for your return.
PS the website name refers to his family.
