Car hire in NO

Do you always have to put such a large holding deposit when you pick up a hire car some are quoting as much as a thousand pounds or am i reading it wrong .I do not remember doing that a couple of years ago in Alicante for the same month November.

Where have you read that you need to put a large holding deposit, there is usually an excess which you can waiver by paying additional premium or getting an annual policy to cover. As far as I am aware I have not ever paid a large holding deposit.
