Cash withdrawal in Palma

Sorry if this is in wrong place -
On Sunday, after a week in PP we spent a few days in Palma before flying home. I withdrew cash using Nationwide debit card from a bank machine in the morning and in the afternoon, hubby drew out cash using barclaycard credit card from a totally different bank. When I checked online, both amounts had been debited THREE times!! We have since got refunded but anyone in a similar situation should be sure and check their statements.

Were either of the UK banks able to offer an explanation as to what had happened?

We had the same thing happen this week using the Santander bank in the port. I was very concerned that it was fraud and that the machine was dodgy or that the account had been intercepted when I was checking it online, so I had to ring the bank on my mobile and was on for about half an hour so I will be claiming the cost of this back from them! They just kept saying "system error" and could not offer me a real explanation. We have had the money back but the bank did not apologise or show any understanding of how concerned we were. We all know the problems with Santander - we were very happily with A& L for years but frankly this is appallling. This sort of thing simply cannot happen!!

Were you using a Santander bank? Maybe there is a problem with the "system" (whatever the system is) in Spain at present causing these problems?

Hubby definitely used Santander ATM. Not sure what mine was but I didn’t think it was Santander and it was in a totally different part of the town. The thing is, we wouldn't have dreamt of getting cash out on a credit card, but because they had taken it out three times from my account, it was showing that I had reached my daily limit.

Strange coincidence this - on 9th July I bought petrol from the Repsol garage in Alcudia using a Nationwide credit card. Couple of days later I checked my statement to find that the amount had been taken out three times and later put back twice. Does appear that the system has been throwing wobbleys
