For all you long time fans of El Ancla, I can confirm that it will close at the end of September for good and the building will be demolished. I was also told that the Hotel Romantic next door will also be demolished, but I have no confirmation on that. What else can I say. I can't put my feelings into words. Leo did every thing he could to extend his lease, but the owners were having none of it. Its the end of an era. Gutted !!

Oh my word thats is terrible news ..a fab place

That's an understatement, decades of my life have passed, good and bad, but every time I went to PP, there it was , like a rock. Those folk were like family to me. The old neptuno going was one thing, but this is the worst thing that could have happened as far as I am concerned.

Won't be the same without it, fave place from the beach. :(

El Ancla

We heard about Ancla closing in May but didn't want to be the bearer of such devastating news and I think we didn't want to believe it either. Apparently there are plans to re-build as a restaurant with apartments above and underground car park below. We will miss everything about El Ancla and the family that run it - Leo, Anna and Bernie. Also Rocky who worked so hard to look after everyone. Maybe he will be taken on by the new owners. Let's hope so.

Although I have 'liked' this - it is so sad to hear this news. This is such a long time favourite spot with lovely people.

Ancla is the much welcome refreshment spot for our daily walk ....... As well as serving one of the best Paellas in the port

Bad news indeed

Although we weren't big fans of El Ancla restaurant, I am still really sorry to hear that is closing to make way for apartments/restaurant/underground car park or whatever:( It was a landmark building in PP as is the Romantica, and it's just so sad that buildings and businesses with character and history and loved by so many, are being demolished to make way for yet another bland and soulless concrete structure. We've already lost Los Pescadores and La Goleta - but Simbads marches on!

This is the same old story! Remember El Pozos - run by Juan and his wife who now run the takeaway Casa Isobel? the lease was put out of their grasp and they had to move on. One of the best Lobster Calderetas I have ever eaten cooked by them. ( We are talking a Long time ago!). Memories!

I do understand from them that they have to have first refusal on a lease of the new restaurant, but I am sure it will be too expensive .

The old El Pozo was our favourite restaurant many years ago:) and the first place I had Lomo con Col.

Also if the Romantica goes, so will the See Mallorca panning webcam as this seems to be where its located.

I think the webcam is on the apartments next door on the corner!

Thats good to know:) I was trying to work out where it was last time we were there and I thought it might be on the hotel so I'm glad it's not!

The webcam is on one of the top apartments on the Ancorra building

Sad to hear about El Ancla and the Romantic They both have loyal customers and hope something soulless and modern doesent go there

Stayed in the Romantic many times great hotel infact were there in two weeks time,i am gutted love this hotel and had some great nights in ElAncla, the staff work so hard to make you welcome, will have to take some picks this year of both of them,i think the reason will be location, location, location, people will pay big bucks just for that alone, very very sad,we are gutted

El Ancla news

So sad that these two landmarks are being taken away from us. We spent our honeymoon at the hotel 16 years ago and know many people who come back year after year.

Folks, Re The Romantic. Just to be clear, I only had confirmation about the Ancla Going, the Romantic was mentioned by someone else.

On a lighter note and believe me where this place is concerned its not easy, but Mrs Pollensafan suggested we should have a sit in on the terrace once it has closed to stop them demolishing it. She maintains they would never knock it down with us sitting there. However, I said " They might if they look at you and think you look like you have already suffered bomb damage ":)

PS If I never post again, you'll know she's seen the post
