"gentlemen's" weekend

At last, we have managed to shake off the kids (and dog) and 5 "gentlemen" are heading over for a long weekend next Thursday.

Now, given we are specialists in child friendly activities such as "best water park", "best bar in the square for keeping an eye on your kids" and "best beach where your kids won't get swept into the Med " I need a couple of pointers on some very very crucial adult issues.

1) Best fry up - now, not your Jokers german sausage type effort, I mean full on good old British bangers, black pudding, fried bread and mugs of tea (Sky sports on in the background optional but also welcome)

2) Good cycle route website - any good sites for the 3 cyclists to plan a ride on Friday ?

3) Best bar for daytime football - whilst cycle rides will be had, our Man City supporter wants to see the football on Saturday, preferably in close proximity to a pool table / dart board for those of us who don't - any suggestions ?

4) Is tapas route now Thursday - hopefully arrive in time to join it, will start near our apartment at Es Moll, after that were is recommended, is it worth heading as far down as Rustic Cafe (always mean to go but never made it) ?

5) Is El Posito open on Friday evening ?

6) Late night revellery - Whilst Nostalgia will be conquered each evening, is there anywhere else after that - other than Chivas for our embarrassing dad dancing to euro-pop - has a late bar opened beside Chivas ?

I noticed Ca'n Josep were advertising a full English breakfast - can't promise that it offered black pudding though but it looked pretty satisfying - think it was 6.50E including juice and tea/coffee. Plenty of customers tucking in!

1) not tried it but saw Palms (upside of Pollensa Park Hotel) was advertising full english about 5.95 + they have SKY sports.

2) Try this Cycling Routes in Mallorca: Where to Go Cycling | SeeMallorca.com or Mallorca - The Routes or get one of the reasonably priced bike maps from the Tabacs and freestyle it!

6) For late night revelry head for Mombasas and then Buddha Bar just round the corner - big elephant outside you can't miss it!

Match Point, on the front, opposite the tourist information cabin, next to Marina, is great for sport. Lot of TVs, pool table and table football.

Not sure about Mulligans, hubby has just been speaking to the new owners and at the moment they are still waiting for the water and electricity to be turned on . Needless to say they are not very happy bunnies .

Think we've got a basic plan of action, but lack of suitable bike hire (told them they needed to book them well in advance !!) and weather means we might head to Palma on Friday morning.

Is the best of the old town just behind the Cathedral ? And is best parking at the Cathedral underground carpark ?

Just fancy a short trip, bit of a walk, tapas lunch and home to prepare for pre-dinner drinks on the terrace, El Posito, Cultural Bar,Bony's, O'Haras, Mulligans, Aussie Bar, Nostalgia, Chivas

We always park there. Easy to get to / out of and it puts you at the right end of the city for the sights and shops etc.

if you go to PALMA whatever you do DON'T eat in the square ,the enclosed square with restaurants all around it and anyone else who reads this , its the worst tourist fodder I have ever seen. greasy reheated luke warm . unfortunately I had the misfortune to go twice to two different places before I learnt my lesson. They also have the habit of waving menus in your face as you walk around, which thank goodness doesnt happen in PP. There are many lovely places in Palma but not that square, disgusting. and some very strange people seem to hang around it .

Thanks to all the helpful posts on here, we're just back from an excellent (but very wet) weekend in PP. So a quick review

Thursday - arrive 10.00pm, quick beer then heated discussion about a quick burger at Kiosko or proper sit down. We go for Port 31 tapas menu, excellent food (fast becoming one of our favourites), great craic with the staff, setting us up for a beer or 2 at Bonys then onto Nostalgia - special mention for Colin who was incredibly tolerant and gracious with 5 middle aged men trying to relive their musical youth.

Friday - rain ! So off the Can Balache for a full fry up, just as calorie laden and tasty as we hoped for, perfect start to the day. Our cyclists headed off, so the 2 non athletes went on a brisk walk - straight to La Cantina. Having recovered from our brisk walk we then went on another brisk walk, this time to Jokers. Great day chatting and hearing stories from an Olympic cyclist. Back home then out to El Posito.

Now, there is certainly something missing in El Posito this year, it was Sparky not propping up the bar !

Superb starters and Cod meal, Zak and Tony on great form, so much so that we stayed too long and missed the Hustlers, but a small price to day for a wonderful evening. So, great meal, no Hustlers, what else can you do but round the night off in Nostalgia - special mention for Colin who was incredibly tolerant and gracious with 5 middle aged men trying to relive their musical youth.

Saturday - sluggish start, so another Can Balache fry up needed. Our cyclists were aching a bit so what better way to flex those muscles than a quick stroll, to Jokers. Spent a lovely afternoon chatting to everyone who came in (even if they didn't want to) , great way to put in a wet afternoon in PP.

Home to change for a meal at NaRuixa, superb Paella and pork dishes, washed down with excellent wine and schnaps. This really is a first class place.

Now we are no creatures of habit and like to see as much as possible in the resort, so it was straight back to Nostalgia - special mention for Colin who was incredibly tolerant and gracious with 5 middle aged men trying to relive their musical youth.

Very lively evening, met lots of great folk, and a few younger ones even tolerated us enough to drag us (very reluctantly) to Chivas.

Sunday - was a very, very long journey home

I assume "Ladies weekend" will be next on the calendar .
