Planning the March outing and found some very good rates with Goldcar for the beginning of the month. OK, it's out of season and you have to take into account the additional insurance if you don't already have an annual excess policy but the deals are good at the moment.

Hi

While we are waiting for Terrys to confirm prices, I looked at Goldcar and their rates do seem quite good. In the T&C's it states that the insurance doesnt cover all the usual things like flat battery, replacement car etc so I just wondered if anyone knew how much the extra insurance is that you have to pay on the day - there is no mention of it in their terms etc.

Depending on the firm it can cost from 5-10 Eur a day. That's why people often buy an annual policy such as Insurance4CarHire - only £49.99 per year! :)

Thank you Pollensa for the link - I have looked and it looks a very good option. But I seem to remember a couple of years ago, we took out a separate insurance of this type (not this company) and at the rental desk they wouldnt accept this and insisted we took out theirs - I suppose I could check with Goldcar first to make sure that we wouldnt be faced with the same situation again;)

PS Hubby just told me it was Goldcar where we had the problem!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think its a case of not accepting it, the issue is if you use the hirers insurance you will not have to pay out for any damage caused, but if you use another insurance company you may have to pay for any damage and then claim it back from the other company at a later date, I think that's how they explained it to me once when we hired through them and took out the on line companies extra insurance instead of thiers!

That's what we have found. You may also find that they take a deposit or CC details as you are not insured through them.

I emailed Goldcar and sent them more details about our car hire requirements etc and they have quoted 6.10 euros per day for the CC range up to a max of 74 euros - which sounds quite reasonable:)
