Lets be honest guys, because of previous issues with the Texmex guy and him turning the fishermans cottage at the start of Pine Walk into a tex mex this new restaurant is going to get panned before it is even open.

He must be doing something right if his empire continues to expand. The public gets what the public wants.

A lot of small businesses along that stretch already it may affect, citrus, miguelon, simbab and la cabana to name a few

As the owner of a business "just around the corner" I have no problem with the Dakota, O'hara's,1919 group refubishing & opening a restaurant at our end of town. In fact it may benifit us if it gets people to loosen the chains that restrict them to the square & pedestrian front line establishments and venture to the "other side" and realise there is another part of PP thats actually quite nice.

That's fair comment! and that area of PP is very vibrant and deserves more visitors, but can't help thinking it's still another notch in a down market trend in PP, all the establishments you mention are very ordinary, to say the least, yes they look nice, but as we say in Glasgow "All fur coat and no knickers". The reason the other Tex-Mex establishments do well is they are very well positioned and will always do well with first time visitors who are unaware of the better restaurants mentioned on this board, it certainly ain't for the quality of food or service.

Pretty obvious i'm not a fan of "themed" establishments, but as a visitor 25 years and apartment owner in PP it does disappoint me.

After reading all the comments I fail to understand how people feel Tex Mex can be down market from a Kebab house, Me thinks they are in the same league. But what most are failing to grasp is that any investment in the Port in these difficult times must be welcomed. We have way to many empty and boarded up properties in and around the Port so before rounding on the Tex Mex people, ask yourself would you rather see that corner Boarded up or people sitting enjoying a meal and adding to the atmosphere in that area.

I never thought that the kebab house was ever "downmarket" and just gave another option for takeaway food?

I agree with most on here that another themed Tex-Mex would be detrimental to the port. Let's hope it is something a little different. As also mentioned, visitors flock to them because they look appealing and I suppose there is a market for them?

I do agree though that closed up premises are no good to anyone and don't give PP a good image. Hopefully this restaurant will look a little less "loud" than the others in this group.

Yes but i am told it will not be an obvious Dakota Tex-Mex, it will be more up market like the small one at the start of the Pinewalk .

Shame it's not now. Although I would not eat t-mex ect--, the fact remains that plenty do cos you don't see them going under. The irony is, when it was a kebab place it was always packed with locals. I always chuckled when passing, that one table always had around 5 old spanish/mallorcan ladies on it. None of which looked as if they would see 80 again.

I just wanted to say, we have been here before with this discussion! I think the main thing is to have choice, people want lots of different things and as long as you can still get Spanish/Majorquin food as well as more cosmopolitan food then a everyone is happy, and to be honest the Spanish are no different than us, they love Chinese, Indian and Italian food as much as we do.

I think it is a pity that a popular local business has yet again had to close. We had such fun with Juan and his staff who worked extremely hard and produced fantastically tasty kebabs - an item of food I would not dream of eating in the UK! The place was always clean and food prepared freshly, it was a pleasure to watch a young man working with such enthusiasm and earnestness and 'reading' his workplace. He knew his customers, was efficient and rarely missed a new customer taking a seat and he was loads of fun!. We will miss him

Does anyone know why the kebab shop has stopped trading ? We too are sorry to see it go it was always busy so assume it was financially viable. Just wondering what made juan move on.

I agree with Can Balache on this one. There are loads of lovely restaurants along that neck of the woods and if the new Tex-Mex attratcts people that wouldnt venture along there otherwise then whats not to like?

Running along that strip you have Brisa marina, Los faroles, Simbad, Can Josep, La Gola, Los Zarzales, Tolos and another couple of ones that escape me just now. Each and every one of them authentic Mallorquian (sp?) kitchens. Add in Citrus, Can Balache, Bar Med and Sail and surf surely this will soon become the most vibrant part of town?

You are correct rab there are some cracking places down that end and that is where we tend to gravitate to now, used can balache for the 1st time tbh for drinks a few times over Xmas and was very nice too

I really hope the tex mex does draw folks to that end of town which will surely help other businesses there too

I was told that the lease was up and the property owners were unwilling to reduce the rental over the winter months, in particular the ice cream parlour part as both businesses were connected, just not sustainable during winter

For those who feel they've missed a chance, there's always El Kiosko!! Never thought I'd 'dine' there but surprisingly good cheeseburger in the small hours after too much sauce at Nostalgia! Give 'em a go!

You tend not to get "write ups" about these type of places, they're basically quick stop fast food establishments, which are fine for customers who want it that way, and are after a quick snack then move on.
