 Great, we have booked through Do You Spain for the very first time this year & have been given a car through Record. To late to change now as we go next week. Has anybody had an ok experience !!! :(

Record rentacar

We gave up using Record over a year ago after one of their 'more mature' cars conked out on us. Whilst we can accept that that sort of thing can happen, their response was decidedly unhelpful and we lost one whole day of our holiday, waiting for the tow truck to arrive, then going back to the airport and then getting another car. Still had to queue for the replacement vehicle too.

They also have a habit of not providing safety equipment in their cars - ie no high viz jackets or warning triangles and that could have landed us with big fines when the car broke down.

Friends booked with Record recently and reported that the queue for the Record desk was not too huge but they still felt 'stung' with the full tank of fuel charge and additional all inclusive insurance charge. The car was ok - not particularly clean - and still no safety equipment.

Oh well too late now, though as I understand it there is a 'no excess' on the insurance & the all inclusive insurance charge is optional, so you don't have to pay it. Let's hope we have the first good experience with Record ;)

How and why do some of these car rental companies still get away with it???

I can't repeat enough the fantastic, clear, up front, and efficient experience we had with Terry's car hire. The best so far in France(home), UK or Spain!

Midlix

Has anyone used OK Rent A Car before. I've just booked for October with DoYouSpain and the booking has been placed with them. I haven't heard of or used them before so any comments would be welcome. Are they offsite and if so how far? Thanks

PLEASE ASK FOR ANOTHER CAR SUPPLIER. My one and only time having a car from OK Rental was terrible. They are off airport by approx. 15mins. Their depot is not easy to find when returning the car. BIGGEST problem is a great number of people including myself were charged for imagined damage on return of the car. Read my comments of 2012 in the forum.
We presented enough evidence to our card company of blatant wrong doing for them to give us a total refund. I just do not know how this company are still allowed to deal in credit card transactions.
Handing over your card details is at all times very risky. You give them the right to remove from your card what they think fit. BEWARE!!!!!

Avoid at all costs ,we had a very similar experience to midlix , they even had the ordasity to charge us for exhaust damage on top of non existent damage, see my post on Automotive, another one to avoid along with Rekord.

Oh well fingers crossed, so far so good. Picked car up, no waiting at all. Car looks virtually brand new with 8k kms on the clock, even had triangle & hi viz inside, though the full tank of fuel for 82 euros does feel like they are taking your eyes out.

Got a good view of the OK car hire compound from the motorway this morning on the way in from the airport. Not a car on site - not one. The place looked deserted.
This was fronting on to the motorway with Ikea in the background. I am assuming this is is the 'off airport' site. Or maybe they have moved to another site?

Overheard on the Illa d'Dor terrace tonight - "OK Car Hire haven't given me any Directions to find the drop off site, I 'll have to ring them to find out where to return the car"
Make of this what you will!

We Will We Will Scam You! OK Rent a Car

Company: OK Rent a Car (Mallorca)

Location of pick up: Off airport Palma de Mallorca

Period of rental: 3 days / 10.1013 - 13.10.13

Overall cost: 300 euros + fuel

Booking agent: Doyouspain

We have been renting cards in Mallorca for around 30 years and never had a problem until ...

1. To begin with the airport pick up was late, but we still had to pay an out of hours charge.

2. Before collecting the vehicle we were asked to inspect it in the dark for damage when it was not possible to see the vehicle properly. e hurriedly inspected the car as they said they were closing and provided no assistance or torch to inspect vehicle. So we only recorded the most obvious marks and scratches on their sheet. The member of staff countersigned the report and grinned at us whilst asking for us to pay additional insurance 30 euros for 3 days insurance saying 'you'll need this'. I asked why when we had rented cars for over 30 years and never had a problem - but we should have know better!

3. When we returned the vehicle, the staff were rude and unreasonable and also tried to charge us for a dirt mark that I rubbed off with my finger. They than said we will get an inspector to arbitrate

4. In a few moments the inspector (member of OK staff) then charged us 180 euros for a scratch that was in a different place - under the bumper and not easily visible. We knew this was not caused during the period when we rented the vehicle. The vehicle inspector then refused to let us see the companies report on the vehicle. They also said it may have been another vehicle, but this was impossible as the scratch was under the car and was not visible unless you looked under the car eg from an inspection pit. And a collision would have caused damage to the whole of the bumper?

We are requesting a full refund of the 180 euro charge as it was not legitimate and taken against our will. The credit card company have agreed to review the transaction and we await the outcome.

We would not recommend anyone to use OK rent a Car. To us it seemed like a scam and other reports confirm our experience is not unique. Had we realised any of this prior to renting, we would have not used this company.

When I wanted to hire a car in September I booked through DoYouSpain and found out it was with OK and having remembered what the comments were on here I rang DYS and cancelled immediatly:eek:

My Uncle hired a car for 1 week in July with OK, upon returning the motor a bloke of about 40 years old accused him of damaging the undercarriage , (he had traveled to the airport & back & driven once to Alcudia), he demanded another 380 Euros my Uncle went berserk & he himself called the Police, OK backed down immediately, it is obviously something they try on ,Beware!

Disgraceful! Who needs this problem? I suppose they think the majority of people will just pay up without a fight and I suppose many do.

We (or rather husband) always make a point of photographing every part of
the car no matter which company and ensuring they know he does exactly that. On return he does the same thing again - just incase any nasty bills arrive after the event. A little over the top perhaps but then with the likes of this company .....!
