He's absolutely right. We do most of our viewing over the internet now and the quality can dip a bit at busy times. Still. Better than forking out for a new satellite dish.

Who is your internet provider barefoot and what sort of download speed are you getting? I use IBRed with 3mb download speed that slows down at peak periods. I shall wait till next year before deciding what to do but it will be interesting to get your feedback as more people start using the internet.

Friend of mine who lives just south of Sa Pobla has just had a 1.7m spun aluminium dish installed to replace his present 1.2m. He says he now has all channels including BBC3hd & BBC4hd which he didn´t have even from the old satellite. He was charged less than 500€. I don´t know whether I am allowed to mention the Company name here but Buzz Lightyear goes there allot !!!

"To Infinity and Beyond" :)

The clue is most likely ' Infinity satellites' with 'mallorca' to help google know which country :)

Papillon, we use Conecta Balear which is also wifi, like IbRed. There was an installation cost of about 140€ and we get download speed of around 8 mb! Wizzy wizzy. Excellent company. Obviously can't put their website on here, but you should be able to google it. Costs around 42€ a month inc IVA.

Thanks for that barefoot, looks like I can upgrade for slightly more so yours is a good deal.
Will check out the options in May.

This might help those of you who are still trying to decide what course to take.
I live in Gotmar in the shade of the hill and my satellite dish faces the Balauba Apartments. Because of this I decided not to mess around and go for the `belt and bracers´option. I now have a 1.8m glass fibre dish on a concrete plinth in my garden. I have 490 channels (the vast majority are rubbish) including all the HD channels. Signal strength and quality read between 80 and 100% depending on the channel viewed. Total cost including the plinth was 1800€.
I have also arranged for a friend of mine just 100m away to have Infinity fit a wall mounted dish on her villa. They advertise it as being a 1.7m dish costing 470€. In reality it is 1.55m across and including a new bracket and lnb cost 650€ but it works. She has all the usual channels (not HD) without any break up although I havn´t yet been able to view it in bad weather.

Lastly - Is anyone here at the moment using a Sky card to view the basic pay-to-view channels like Sky 1? If yes can you please let me know if these are still available without changing your equipment? I can´t seem to find out if they are still on the European beam or if they are now on the UK spot beam.

Can anyone answer this?

Hi all,
Hoping someone can answer this:
If we have one of the 1.7m (1.55m actual) dishes fitted by Infinity, how many lines can be taken off it? Hoping to share costs with neighbours.
Have been following this post with interest.

Without the need for any sort of external distribution system it is now possible to get an 8 way lnb and feed 8 apartments. Each will need to have a separate cable up to the dish.

Just been told that the Sky basic `pay to view´channels like Sky 1 etc are now on the European beam of the new Astra 2e satellite so those of you with a Sky subscription should still be able to get these channels without changing anything. Regret no BBC, ITV, CH4 or 5 however subscription or not.

Very basic question. We share a dish that measures´1.4 top to bottom and 1.2 side to side, so how do you describe it?

Just arrived on Friday morning and we have the Sky package over here but most of the channels apart from sky news wouldn't work:mad:Turned TV on last night and all the channels are back on, it only seems to work at night. Colin from nostalgia says he still has bbc and itv on his telly but is upgrading his cable and connections first to get the sport back on.

Barefoot, clink ham and Fil699. I said it was a stupid question but the responses weren't much better !! Let me try again , you refer to dishes as 1.7 ( act 1.55) ? What does this mean is mine therefore 1.4 (actually 1.2)? Rectangle is definitely wrong, pie possibly , useless is completely accurate !!!

We arrived this evening and so far get a perfect picture on both BBC and STV/ITV:), hope it lasts.

Sorry I just couldn't resist:D

OK lets try for a serious answer.
Some dishes are slightly oval. This is because the lnb does not sit opposite the dead centre and it is then called an offset dish. A dish where the lnb is dead centre is called a prime focus dish. The offset dish is oval so that the lnb sees it as circular.
