Ours does it no matter what the weather! We switch to ITV Wales and BBC Wales for a better reception. No idea why!

Its not just our weather could be in the region your card is registered in thats why if you switch to other region,s it usualy works
( so I was told)

Have just remembered - we were told its all to do with the satallite placement, and whereas the London / Britain stations are perfect up until about 6pm, it then loses good reception, whereas Wales still has a clear route to Mallorca!! There again, I always was blinded by science so they could tell me anything!

ryansclan posted regarding spanish cards - does anyone know if they are freesat cards (i.e a one off payment) as it would be a good way to learn more of the lingo!!

Sky digiboxes have all the BBC1 regions available on the EPG (electronic programming guide) however the region the box was first registered in will be the one available on channel 101. The strongest BBC1 region appears to be London. If this is not what you have on 101 then you will find it on 974. The ITV regions are different as all the regions do not appear on the EPG. Again the region the box was first registered in is the one that you have on 103. Meridian is generally the strongest. Wales is also good but if you don´t have one of these on 103 they can be manually tuned in by going into System Setup. Channel 5 which is now only available on a Skybox if you have a card can also be tuned in manually from the Freesat Platform. Send me a private message if you need further help.

I've just moved into a long term rental apartment with a German "Smart" satellite receiver. The owner (Scottish) told me that there was UK TV, or maybe "UK channels" was the term used, but all I can get are loads of German channels, a few Russian, some Austrian and the only exception to these are BBC World, Sky News and CNN. The satellite the receiver appears to be "looking at" is "Astra 19.2E", going by the set-up menu. I've tried selecting specific channels via the remote control (993, 974, etc, based on a previous post) but it just refuses to budge to these. Even when I select "all satellites" nothing changes so it appears that the dish can only see one satellite.
I'm wondering if the dish is moved to point at a different satellite I'll be able to receive UK TV...? I'm not sure how this service is being paid for and I've not spoken to the owner about this yet. I'm pretty sure that the dish isn't communal.
I've got an instruction booklet here but it's only in German!
Advice appreciated.

Just done a quick search for this receiver on the web and it appears that there is no subscription to pay. I also saw a review on amazon UK that said it was a fantastic product but it was a shame the manual was only in German!

Brisbane, the UK channels come from the Astra Satellite,but the freesat boxes are pre tuned to accept UK channels. I suspect your German box is preset to German channels. There is a way of adding channels but it is time consuming. It might be better to try and get either a sky box or a freesat box pretuned with Uk channels. i believe you could get one at Confort or maybe a second hand box from the Allen Graham charity shop.

I've since been on the roof and managed to download a manual in English. The dish is pointing the same way as everyone elses so that doesn't appear to be the problem!!
I'll have a go at adding the appropriate channels, if that fails I'll visit Confort or the Allen Graham charity shop.

I have a spare Humax FreesatHD set top box, but I'm here (UK) and you are there!!
Here in the UK I'm pretty sure you don't need to alter the dish (from Sky/Astra) to get the Freesat channels.

Hi clinkham, pity about that!
I thought I had this sussed, the Astro satellite this receiver was defaulted to was the wrong one (19.2E, should have been 28.2/"2D"). So I re-scanned the thing for this satellite and Eurobird 1, but still nowt but German
I've had enough, I'm off to Confort!

Please let me know how you get on Brisbane.I have a Humax box here in PP.I can get a good picture on all UK channels but when it comes to recording programmes it frequently doesn't record despite me carefully setting it before going out.

It looks like I'm going back up on the roof, or getting in touch with my landlady 
I spoke to a guy at Confort, who was very helpful and in no way trying to make a fast buck. I was quite pleased when I discovered that a new receiver was only gonna set me back 60 euros and get me my UK channels, until I told the guy that there was a German receiver in my apartment and although I had re-scanned the receiver and it showed that it was getting channels from the correct satellite for the UK the specific UK channels were not appearing. He said that the problem IS that the dish is pointing at the wrong satellite.
Seems to be that the receiver displays the satellite you select but it's not actually seeing it...
I might jump back up on the roof after this beer and see if I can budge it. Like any metalic object that's been on a roof for more than 5 minutes the bracket and bolts, etc are rusted and I think I could have a bit of a job on my hands, especially with no tools (with the exception of kitchen utensils)

Think i would have a few more beers then get confort to do the job properly, they will have the tools and meters to re-align the dish to the correct sattelite, then sit down with another beer and enjoy your viewing.

The satelite signal here is so weak that the chances of adjusting the dish correctly without the proper meter is just about zero. It is not just that the dish positioning needs to be within a fration of a degree horizontally and vertically but also the position of the lnb (the bit in the middle) needs setting up both for position away from the centre point of the dish but also for rotation (it doesn´t sit straight up). Sky boxes have an inbuilt signal strength meter but although they are ok for setting it up in the uk they are not sensitive enough for here.

I've also read some websites that say that since the 24th of Feb this year all Freesat channels moved to satellite N1, I thought that this was the German one at 19.2 degrees east, i.e. the satellite my dish is currently looking at

Astra 1N is at 28.2 east and is a temporary satelite replaceing Astra 2D which was decommissioned ealier this year. The new satelite is Astra 2F which is now scheduled for launch on 28th September and will take the channels back from 1N. The bad news is that the new satelite is rummered to use a system called spot-beam ie it transmits a tighter more controlled signal to the UK with less spill to areas outside the target footprint. This could mean that it will be far harder to pick up a decent signal in PP without at least getting a bigger dish.
