Jane, why do I feel we have been here before?.
Ok just for you.
You have just walked in through the door, OK?, The Bar and kitchen face you in the opposite corner, OK?, Now look towards the window on your right, it looks out onto the Formentor road, OK?, Notice there are no tables beside this window?. The reason?. A staircase!. Didn't you notice it?. It goes down, thus we talk about the place down ( because that's where the stairs go) stairs. :rollin :rollin :rollin .
Take care

Rob

Sorry Rob :o

Didn't notice this staircase - so we were sitting upstairs then?

Oh! That explains it:o :o :o

I'll go away and have another lie down.

Jane:D

:rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin Jane Jane Jane Jane. I think we both need to lye down you for a nap, me to stop from falling over as I laughed.
On a serious note :lol . could some one ask if they open the downstairs part for parties and if so how much do they charge. I have an idea for April's visit. And No I don't know someone called April before you ask :rollin :rollin :rollin .

thank you
Rob

Wedding @ La Fortalesa

If it were snowy you'd be my Maid of honour and pollesa man my bridesmaid :rollin . can't think of two nicer blokes on here to escort me down the aisle. Do you look good in pink snowy because I know white is your colour. But we both couldn't be in white:rollin :rollin :rollin . yes PM you can wear your orange thong underneath, but no chains and leather:rollin :rollin :rollin .

Off to laugh somemore.

Re: La Fortalesa

We enjoyed the Mallorcan specials there too, I had the meaty one, is it Mallorquian Frita, and hubby the fishy one which he loved so much he looked for it everywhere. I think we were a bit early as there didn't seem to be a lot of atmosphere, but we were very well looked after and the food was great. Son even asked for a Margarita (cocktail, not pizza) which they more or less put together for him...

Re: La Fortalesa

Hi Rob and Jane

Let me try and solve you upstairs downstairs issue ;) !

Many years ago when their was a large party of us we used to use the downstairs which was very spacious...well the same size as the upstairs >D . My friend who used to work in PP knew Martin so not sure whether it can be booked or if he did it as a favour. It was ok but rather bright and not very atmospheric. You couldn't people watch, which as we all know is a very important part of our hols, and when it's hot outside it doesn't seem right to be stuck...downstairs :|

Re: La Fortalesa

Hi Rob and Jane

Loving your upstairs downstairs issue!:D

We used to go down the stairs;) to the downstairs >D a few years ago if there was a large party of us. My friend who worked in PP used to book it but not sure whether this was normal or just as a favour by Martin. It was fairly spacious, bout the same as upstairs!:\ ,but lacked atmosphere as you couldn't people watch which, as we all know, is very important on our hols and seemed odd when it was lovely and warm outside to be stuck...DOWNSTAIRS :)

Uptairs rules OK ?

Re: La Fortalesa

Now I'm going Mad!

Got interrupted by hubby who is wanting his dinner and thought I had lost first post so re did it :\

I'm off for a lie down now....upstairs !|I

Re: La Fortalesa

Think we must have eaten upstairs though at the time we thought we were downstairs on account of us not climbing any stairs !

Confused ???? ...... I'm trying my best

Re: La Fortalesa

:) :D :lol :rollin !

Upstairs, downstairs half way up the stairs (wasn't that Kermit?) who cares! It's a top class traditional restaurant and well worth a visit:p

I'll go to the foot of our stairs !!!

Re: La Fortalesa

I'm not going to go into the upstairs downstairs issue.

We loved La Fortalesa and ate there three times during our holiday. We can highly recommend the steak, beautifully tender and cooked to perfection it came with just the right amount of veg etc. and was probably the only time that all three of us cleared our plates.

The only Mallorcan speciality that I tried was the tumbet which was so tasty and a lovely dish to have if you're just not that hungry, Martin suggested that I tried making it at home and I certainly will give it a go.

Oh yes, and we also tried the peppers - never never again! I managed to pick a hot one. Did I say hot? I truly wondered if anyone had ever died from eating peppers!

No desserts sampled, I think I only had one in the entire fortnight.

Does anyone else come back from holiday weighing less than they did when they arrived?

Re: La Fortalesa

And a final thing...

The only downside to this restaurant for us is that it's non-smoking!!

Bound to be a big plus for a lot of other people though!

:smokin

Re: La Fortalesa

Anywhere that serves food has to be non-smoking now unless they can provide a 'separate' smoking area - but please don't post on that in this post re La Fortalesa - thanks.

la Fortalesa

I can only speak for myself, but people who light up next to me while i'm trying to enjoy a meal drive me mad. Congrats to this restaurant, if it is entirely non-smoking non smokers can go and enjoy their meal whithout having to inhale other peoples smoke. Although i have reservations about a no-smoking area, this is just a cop-out, smoke does not just hang about the smoker, it simply spreads about the restaurant. What's the point of that?

Re: la Fortalesa

Whilst eating late in la fortalesa one night a few weeks ago, a locla chap came in with a cigarette lighten, He just had to sit at the table next to us. martin came over with an ashtray within seconds of him sitting down and the person put it out!.
Like you Smiddy It gets right up my nose and I would like to thank Martin for his help in making what for us is always a fantastic meal that bit more enjoyable because it was smoke free.

Re: la Fortalesa

We ate at La Fortalesa a few weeks ago, What can I say about this wonderful charming place that since our first visit to PP I haven't said before?

La Fortalesa is at the top of our "must eat at" list.

From the second you walk through the door Martin & Pauline greet you with the warmest of welcomes, nothing seems too much trouble to them, what a wonderful couple.
As you peruse the Menu (have a look at the sample menu in their advertisment on this site) Both Martin and pauline are at hand to assist you in your choice. One day they'll not hand us a menu:lol
Your choice of wines etc can also be helped by either hosts. Pauline makes up a beautiful jug of Sangria, not one of those fruittie jugs that taste like ribenna no Pauline's version tastes like an adult drink, we love it!

For starters I had my favorite dish Soup ¨de Matanzas¨ Caroline was happy helping my eat the bread and olives. if you have never tried this soup, try it here, it's beautiful.

For our main courses Caroline had the pork in cabbage and I had the Oryctolagus cuniculus with onions both dishes were so beautiful and i managed to convince Caroline to have a little taste of my dish, she thought it tasted nice :eek .

As usual we were stuffed and couldn't face a dessert, they have a wonderful choice.

The meal was finnished off with a glass of Herbes.

After just as warm goodbyes we left La Fortalesa in the firm knowledge that we will be back soon.

Thank you Martin & Pauline (and the rest of your staff) for another wonderful night.

Re: la Fortalesa

It was my birthday yesterday, so we went out to a local Mediterranean restaurant and had a lovely meal. My daughter had steak, which she enjoyed, but she reckons the best steak that she's ever had in her whole life (she's 15) was at La Fortalesa... have to agree with her!!

Re: la Fortalesa

Agree with you Rob La Fortelesa is always one of our favourites although didn't go last time as the usual problem of not enough days...well we would have had if a certain person had been a bit more careful with the drill :\

I love the lomo con col..pork in cabbage and always fancy it when I'm in need of comfort food..holes in pipes water spurting everywhere..those sort of times!!

Marsha, I also have a contender for the best steak in town..Resaturant Siller. I'm not a huge steak lover but this melts in your mouth and is served on individual hot (very:eek ) plates so you can cook it yourself just how you like it :p

Re: la Fortalesa

Also agree with Rob

Great place, great food . majorcan lamb a favourite with our family
