Suckling Pig

Can anyone please recommend a good restaurant that serves roast suckling pig. We tried 2 places last year but it wasn't as I remembered it from some years ago, the restaurant is no longer there. It just melted and was delicious. Many thanks

I've heard of restaurants sometimes having a change of ownership, or even closing down completely, but not just melting!

I have always enjoyed the Roast Suckling Pig at Tango - for about 25 years now.

Sparky, back in those days there used to be, for want of a better description, a sort of a barbeque place on the street that leads to the Polly Park from the sea front, on the right hand side as you go down it - opposite a field of what I remember as sweet corn. It was just a shell of a building if I remember correctly. All they seemed to sell was grilled/barbequed Steaks and Roast Suckling PIg, but it was delicious. Superb in faCT. Is it still in operation do you know??

It was about three quarters down the street on the right hand side - just a shell of a building, 3 walls and a roof, but no front. And the guys came along each day about 4 o'clock, lit the half oil drum barbeques, and got the drinks out from their van. Then at the end of the night they reloaded the van with the leftover bottles and went away until the next day, leaving nothing behind but an empty shell of a building.

On recollection, there may have been a pub at the end of the street, and the Polly Park was further on down.

Can only think of the Sol y Mar when they had the big outddor BBQ, no?
Though I never ate there before the El Ancla people took it over.

Well done the Irish - my wife has just confirmed that she is almost sure it was called the Sol Y Mar.

Is it still there and are the steaks ,etc. still as good - remember they were absolutely gigantic, but delicious.

Maybe it was used with the drinks van while the restaurant proper was closed for a while?

In the past I would have suggested either El Posito or Cellar La Parra but on the back of a recent visit I'd have to say Los Zarzales is the best I've had so far

I think i know where you mean, not all of that block had been developed when we first visited, but in those days we only came in October for 1 week, never saw this, maybe they only did it in the peak season. Now all the units are either cafe/bars or supermarkets .

Yes your wife is right it is the Sol y Mar. Which has been taken over by the people who had the El Ancla on the front. We visited last year but npot quite the same as the old place, and no Rocky.

Tangoman, you confused me (not hard to do ) when you said it was three quarters along the street, yes the Sol y Mar is the first one. You must have been there before my first visit because i have only ever known it to be developed and with the proper barbi .

Sorry for the mis-information Sparky - it was 25 years ago, because we were staying at The Hobby Club that year, and it was handy for us. Perhaps if I put some WD40 on the old grey cells ..........

I first visited in 1982 and Sol y Mar was definitely there then, i remember because i had the biggest hangover of my life the morning after .

Just remembered we tried Cellar La Parra last year and it wasn't that nice, we booked a table and pre-ordered the day before, but it tasted double cooked. Will try the others mentioned. Thanks again

IMHO La Zarzales great Suckling Pig also great Red House wine or El Posito
