Thomson Ripoff!

We have been travelling to PP for the last 6 years with our kids, always staying in the Playa Mar apartments, which we like and have friends there, as do the kids. About 4 years ago we were paying about 1300 for 2 weeks self catering (exc flights), this rose to 2000 last year and for next year Thomson want nearly 2500 for the same. So, that is nearly double over 4 years.

I have raised this with them, asking why is our loyalty being penalised rather than being rewarded, but was effectively told that is the way it is.

Just wanted to 'vent' this I guess !!

Why not rent a private villa or apartment and do your own thing? This is worth considering especially as you need to organise your own flights on top of this cost. You can still use their facilities if you want to.

The alternative option might be to risk leaving the booking until nearer the time to see if reduced. Probably a risk if you specifially need the schools holidays.

Yes, absolutely! book your flights & accommodation independently. We always do & did when our children were younger. Will save you a fortune. Plenty of great villas & apts on this site.

We always book flights then accommodation through this site now for that reason, total rip off with tour operators. Have you tried emailing the hotel direct to see if you can book with them? email address is on this site.

Can you only book Playa Mar with Thompson s I would contact the Play Mar direct I am sure over the years you have stayed there you have made some connections . Explain how all your family love the wonderful place but Thompson s have now made it impossible can they help. Just an idea

Clinz, we do rent a private apartment but we always use Thomson for their flights out of Bournemouth, watched their website prices for summer 2014 and they rose by £100 per person within 24 hours - don't know what is happening with Thomson??!! Will add that about 2 weeks later their flights went down to half their original price, i managed to book but have to say they are well on the rise again now.

Thanks for all the feedback. We always book separate flights and accommodation to save money.

Unfortuantely you can only book direct with Thomson. I have actually spoken to the manager there, who is a nice guy, but they can not allow us to book direct.

I think there would be uproar from the kids if we booked somewhere else, even if we were regular visitors!! Will watch the prices and see if they come down.

Hi there,
Sorry to hear about the huge price increase. It may be worth considering the fact that many of the hotels and apartment complexes have now started using a similar pricing system to the airlines. Basically this means that prices will rise as availability decreases so it really is essential to book both the flights and accomodation as early as possible.
