This is great news. Tolos was in decline for whatever reason and the fact that an up and coming business is expanding and taking over what is a prime spot is wonderful news.

We have been eating at their restaurant close to the Daina Hotel for the past couple of years .

It would be good to have a more Spanish theme to the food on offer though. No matter what welcome news indeed.

Personally, I have never been impressed with the food served at Casa Vila or Marina Brasserie.

I have yet to dine at Vila di Mare, as it´s not my "sort of place" and first years are always trial and error.

What is apparent is that 4 or 5 groups now dominate the catering industry in Puerto Pollensa, which, in my opinion, is not a good thing, as accountants tend to run them and not the person who has his clients best interests at heart.

This will also probably mean that as part of a chain it will close down during the winter months as they will not need to keep it open to be able to cover costs.

No doubt a member or members of the family will be reading our comments, so will most probably try and prove me wrong !

I don't follow your point here MDR, Tolo did not open his restaurant all winter anyway and neither do many other "non chain" places but Marina Brasserie and Casa Vila are open all year.

Off the wall even for you MDR I'm not sure what sort of food impresses you or where in the Port you go to eat it. IMO,and I know a lot of members would agree, the food at Marina and their other restaurants is creative, freshly prepared (unlike most chains) and reasonably priced. As sparky said two out of three of them are open all year which Tolos never was. In addition Toni the owner is very hands on, and is in one of his 3 restaurants (often cooking) most of the time.

I am sure that a lot of people enjoy eating at their restaurants, I was only giving my opinion which may be wrong but is based on my past experiences.

Re winter, and if my memory serves me correctly, Tolo only closed for a few weeks, and not for a few months like the ones outside of the centre of town do. Anyway we shall see.

My point about chains is that normally, their overheads are higher than those of small restaurants so have to be careful with costs, especially staff ones, whose hidden costs can be extremely high.

Witness for instance the case of Zarzales. They have opened during the winter due, I suppose to the fact that their other businesses, which aren´t in the same industry, can carry some of the costs.

Talking about being open, does anyone know if Stefano´s is ?.

Also, I have never knowingly critised your opinions, even if the ones regarding the new pavements did get a bit tiring at times, so I think the "off the wall" comment, not that it bothers me, is slightly superfluous.

Just because I have been to Burger King, and that you stated that you couldn´t stand them, doesn´t neccesarily mean that my taste buds aren´t as refined as yours.

Zarzales were closed then opened for Christmas/New Year but going by their FB page it looks like they may have closed again.

Of course you have every right to voice your opinion of the food served in any restaurant, there are a few that i don't like and life would be boring if we all liked the same fare.

Comments based on experience or facts are the lifeblood of this forum but negative statements made for the sake of it are simply contentious.

Why ‘off the wall’ ?

1. 'Vlla Di Mare not my sort of place’ ...by your own admission based on no experience of the place at all .

2. 'Accountants tend to run chains’ ... based on what ? In any event a local family running 3 or 4 restaurants is hardly a chain like McDonalds!


3.'No doubt they will close down in the winter months' ...Maybe, maybe not but Tolo’s closed down in the winter months, whilst to date experience with the Vila’s is that 2 out of 3 of their restaurants don’t. So why make this contentious statement ?


4. No doubt the family will try and prove me wrong! ...If you make argumentative statements with no basis of experience or fact what else would you expect them to do ? Why use the word ‘try’ which suggests you’ve made your mind up and they have no hope of changing it. Obstinate or what ?

You then subsequently carry on with further suppositions about Los Zarzales, which again has no basis of fact or experience at the heart of it ? What is the point ?

Finally you raise Burger King on which we both have an opinion based on experience. The relevance to this post for me is not our differing opinions, which are personal, but that in my opinion the Burger King chain and the Tex Mex restaurants do not sell freshly prepared meals. As you asked these were the chains I was referring to. Incidentally, I don’t believe at any point I have commented on either your taste buds or mine ?
