We have received a letter from friends in Majorca. We have translated the letter by using a Spanish to English internet translator, but it does not make complete sense. Is majorcan much different to spanish and does any one know of a web site that will translate Majorcan to English.

Mallorcans speak Spanish but also speak Catalan, which is completely different language. If your translatation is understandable, chances are it was written in Spanish, otherwise it wouldn't have made any sense of it at all. If you have a local Spanish school, it might be worth popping in and asking someone to translate it for you.

I'm pleased to say that machine translation still leaves much to be desired - if it were accurate Translatorman would be out of a job! As Sandy points out if you've got something semi-comprehensible, it's likely to be Spanish not Mallorquin but you're unlikely to improve on what you've got.

Is it a long letter? If it's only short I could probably give you a quick summary if that's of interest, although sadly Spanish isn't one of my main languauges, so can't promise absolute accuracy!
