Quite frankly I don't know whether to laugh or to cry about the last two posts.

The front is looking a darn side better than it was last year, with one way traffic and less cars clogging it up.

And not everybody come to sit on the beach, and of the ones that do a lot of them are locals who bring their own, together with their ice boxes and prepared lunches.

No, not everybody comes to sit on the beach (including us - I hate sand!) but you have to admit that a lot of people do and beds and brollies are very necessary even if you do bring your own ice box and prepared lunches.

We've just arrived back home from PP - and I’m disgusted and annoyed with this situation in my favourite beach resort.

I’m not interested in its politics or who is to blame – the outcome is that the Pollenca area powers-that-be have shown no thought or respect for the many early season visitors who wish to use the beach (which previously has had good facilities on it).

The absence of those facilities, whilst we’ve been there, did have a negative impact on our visit. As a three-generation family group, we frequently use those sunshades and sunbeds on the beach.

I completed a formal complaint form at the Tourist Information Office and that has been passed to the appropriate departments. I was gobsmacked to be given the 10 June for sunshade and sunbeds to be available – so shocked that I forgot to ask whether that date was start or end of the setup process (it doesn’t all happen overnight).

I suggest everyone going to PP before late-June should submit a concern-type complaint urgently - to try and focus the minds of the powers-that-be.

I agree Rosie. We very rarely spend time on the beach but, as you say, lots of people do and will be very disappointed if they arrive to no beds and brollies

My goodness. Disgusted and annoyed because there are no beds or brollies on the beach? Taking time out of your holiday to formally complain? Urging people to comlain?

The world has gone mad. There are many, many things in this world that would disgust you but a lack of a bed or brolly on a beach in Spain shouldnt be one of them.

I would urge everybody to relax and enjoy your holiday.

I would suggest people who expect beds and brollys on the beach will be unable to relax and enjoy their holiday. Their holiday is based around relaxing on the beach and expect the facilities to be available, as they have been in previous years.
The fact that these facilities have not been provided in a timely way this year is incredible.
To suggest visitors who, in this situation, have paid good money into the local economy in part on the expectation of having a beach holiday should stop whinging and get on with their holiday is bordering on the offensive.

nb I don't use the 'beds and brollys'. Rather like cycling in lycra, I don't see the point.:)

Sorry hoopy I think you are out of order to criticise someone's opinion in such a way. Maybe you don't like the beach and therefore don't find it important if there are beds and brollies...or maybe you're happy on the sand. A lot of people aren't happy to do this or able to.

In fact your last sentence is priceless! A lot of people want to be able to relax and enjoy their holiday.....and for them it's on the beach, on a bed with a sunshade. At the moment they can't do that!

Hoopy i also think that your post is very disrespectful. Many people think this situation is very bad and if they feel strongly enough to complain to the local council then that is their right.
I have registered my thoughts and so have many locals and business owners, they know the severe damage that is being done as tourists go to other resorts during the day.

Offensive? Really? Seems to be a national pastime these days.

Cmon debz, some people can't relax on holiday without a bed or brolly?

Are you and Malc over just now? Join me in embat this afternoon for a gin and we can put pp to rights!

Hi sparky, the use of the d word has become very fashionable recently when there is a difference of opinion.

My opinion is that this is a trivial issue and that I have much more to concern myself in life. If others don't that's fine but I find it bizarre. To use emotive language like "disgusted" over a triviality I also find bizarre. Again, I'm not expecting everyone to agree with my opinion and am happy to hear people explain their reasoning.

I can't understand why you constantly try to defend this situation? Of course there a locals who readily have all the equipment ie chairs, cool boxes etc but there are far more tourists who don't have these items, and expect there to be beds and brollies on the beach. It is a service that all holiday resorts provide and I know that a lot of people...both locals and tourists..are angry by the fact that they are not there.

You never answer any of my questions so this is my last post on the subject ( I promise sparky ;))

Totally agree MdR tries to defend the indefensible

Hoopy
I can only assume you have never taken young children on holiday with the need to control the amount of sun they are exposed too funny that's where the brolly comes in handy, and yes you would expect brollies and beds on a beach holiday the same you would expect to have your GIN to put the world right with.
Rebel.

this just in... puerto pollensa has run out of gin! now we'll all be sunburned and sober.

I normally try & avoid giving my personal opinion on this forum and restrict myself to moderating it when necessary on occasions of personal abuse, inflammatory comments and defamation.

However I do find it disturbing that members' personal opinions are being criticised so vehemently. Some of us are lucky enough to visit PP regularly. For other others it is a rare opportunity to have any sort of holiday.

I set up both the main website and subsequently the forum to serve the holidaymaker to Puerto Pollensa and this is where most of the traffic to both these sites come from.

Personally, we rarely use the main beaches but we do sometimes visit the Formentor beach. I have a back problem. If I thought that there would be no loungers available and no umbrella for shade, we wouldn't go and would be disappointed to miss that part of our holiday.

I quite understand that many holidaymakers do think that beach facilities including sunbeds, umbrellas, toilets & disabled access are important for their enjoyment of what may be a rare holiday and for others it is not important. There is absolutely no need at all to be unpleasant about another's opinion when expressing your own.

We all look for different things on holiday but most people coming to a resort with a beautiful beach would expect normal facilities Unfortunately we have friends with a young child coming over this year on our recommendation( and having had to look at my husbands screensaver off PP beach while he was at work!!) and they will be disappointed Im sure

If they arent there we will have to buy some Ok for us as we are staying opposite the beach but not so for others who might be coping with a few children and all the bags lilos etc and have 15min walk to the beach

For several years we came out in May and the beds were always there but we changed to June because of the weather We were on the Costal del Sol at Christmas and as the weather was unusually warm there were lots of the Beach Bars with beds out but of course you dont have that facility in PP

I doubt if anyone staying in a Hotel with a Pool would be happy if it was empty when they arrive in June

I certainly find it disgraceful as it has such a short season anyway that everything should be done to extend it

Hoopy think you've got the explanations now. One day you'll have old bones too and will get why the sunbeds are essential to our holiday fun. Of course it's not a matter of life and death as Shanks said its more important than that !! We are setting off by car today and won't arrive until Friday , if your still around see you then .

With beds and brollies in the boot? ... ;)

Have a safe journey.
Looking forward to the trip report ... :)
