I really feel sorry for families visiting the Port. On top of the high season, school holiday prices for flights and accommodation, they are now being asked to pay more than 600 euros for beds and umbrellas for a family of 4 for a fortnight.

Additionally, if the seaview from the hotels and restaurants on the pinewalk is being obstructed by the myriad of umbrellas, then customers may be reluctant to pay the premium prices that businesses need to/can charge for their front line position and they may well vote with their feet.

All in all I don't think this year's sunbed and brolly story has been very successful and if the contract is for three years....

What on earth else can happen in PP to put off visitors?
Mallorca relies on nothing but tourism to survive and as for the moronic "tourists go home", "refugees welcome" graffiti in Palma if the tourists go elsewhere next year the island will die.
What does the island want? It needs to decide.

€22 for 2 beds and a shade is very over the top price wise in my opinion how can they justify that, do you think there is the option to get the original 2 beds and a shade for €15?

Are the new metal beds superior in some way to the old plastic beds ?

Similarly, how do the sunshades compare, new vs old ?

Is there a day-rate for using only the new sunshade & its pole (ie moving the attached beds as far way as practical and bringing ones own sunbeds)? I think there used to be that option when the beds were unattached.

PS - I thought things were problematic enough when there were no beds or shades at all; the new scenario is another significant concern for our favourite beach resort.

As far as I know the price of the existing beds on the main beach is 15 euros, the new beds are on the pinewalk side is that correct?

Yes new beds on Pine Walk side, with limited options, the beds go with the brolly be it 1 or 2 beds, don't think it matters if they are moved away from the brolly, but I can't be totally sure as I haven't used them or spoken to anyone. They are unlocked in the morning so can be moved. People are still using them I suppose many don't have a choice.

I believe the problem is that there is no competition, I'm in Corfu at the moment, two good quality loungers and large Umbrella is only 6 euros! They bring you a chilled bottle of water too in the price, All the beds are taken. Each section of beach is run by a different operator.

If that doesn't show what a rip off PP prices are then I don't know what does?
If it's the greed of the council in higher rental charges for the people running the sun loungers then that's bad news.

I really fear for the prospects of PP at the moment. Yes, there will always be the loyal holidaymakers but new ones?

Thing is, who "owns" the coast there ?. Is is private, or owned by the government, like here ?

It does seem as though there are things to put people off coming to PP for perhaps the first time at the moment, such as the tourist tax and the sunbed situation, which aren't helped by the exchange rate, though it is really isn't too bad, just that we have been used to much better recently. Won't put me off though!

Ihope its only a small minority who think like that, "tourists go home" the way thing are going they will be able to put all the refugees in all the empty hotels .
