I remember Maureen at Citrus telling us last October that the owner of Miguelon was saying that trade was very poor and that some lunctimes they had no customers at all. And every time we walked past in the evenings, there were very few people in. I wonder sometimes if its down to the increasing All Inclusive deals offered by the hotels. A friend of mine went to PP for the first time last year and I had told her about a few good restaurants but in the end they just ate at the hotel every night

Just to set the record straight there are "for sale" signs at both Miguelon & citrus. They are for the landlord who is looking to sell the freeholds of the locales not the businesses looking to sell the lease.

Lets be honest guys, because of previous issues with the Texmex guy and him turning the fishermans cottage at the start of Pine Walk into a tex mex this new restaurant is going to get panned before it is even open.

He must be doing something right if his empire continues to expand. The public gets what the public wants.

Can anybody enlighten me on this? A couple of times I have read oblique references to the Tex mex at the start of the Pine walk and a hint at controversy! I presume the fisherman's Cottage that is being referred to is currently C'an Pescador next to Corb Mari?

Spanish Food !!!

In PP we have Indian, Chinese, Thai and the second Tex Mex well under way. All those type of restaurants you can find at the bottom of your street in the UK. I wish we could have more authentic Mallorquin/ Spanish Fayre!!!!! Its the equivalent of sitting in a bar watching "Coronation Street or Eastenders. surely when you are on holiday you want to sample the local, food, culture, people and places.
I appreciate that we have to cater for everyones needs, but when I come to PP, i just want to "Get away from it all"

I do understand what you are saying and when we make our annual trip we purposely try to at least stick to restaurants with some Spanish authenticity. Unfortunately not everybody is like us. I know, where I work some people will want to make sure that wherever they go they will be able to get a Big Mac or at the very least be able to have a decent steak and chips. The two times we have been to PP with the in laws they liked and wanted good food but were very nervous of anything they didn't understand or recognise.

Hopefully PP will change and adapt to ensure that we are all catered for

Ronnie - Know exactly where you are coming from, couldn't agree more. BUT, P.P. still has a fatal attraction that seems to draw us anglophiles (I include all from G.B. here) back time and again. Apart from its very many eating places - many of them quite authentic or locally owned - it is a wonderful place both geographically and for the type of custom it generally gets. The secret is to spend time seeking out P.P.'s (and the surrounding areas) more authentic offerings. P.P. is mainly a 'British resort' (at the moment!) of some charm and its distance from Palma airport helps greatly. As is mentioned in other posts, it does cater for all sorts of people and you also have to remember that the 'locals' also possibly enjoy the different choice available to them when it comes to eating establishments.

The reason we as a family started coming to the Port some 30 odd years ago is because it was purely of Spanish origin & to a certain extent has retained its identity whilst we appreciate the numerous changes with the times we would absolutely despise it becoming a chain resort like virtually every town In the uk.
I know we have to move with the times but this is one. Of the most beautiful places on Earth ,therefore one must respect the indigenous people & their customs?

Yes, I think you are. Not sure why you are so bewildered. What message do you think I am trying to convey?

I like local cuisine - as does Mrs Pep. When the in laws came with us they wanted to stick to food they were familiar with. For PP to flourish in the current difficult economic climate I think it will need to cater for all tastes. I would be happy for PP to be made up of traditionall Spanish and Mallorcan restaurants but everyone isn't like me

What basically happened was that The Tex Mex guy seemed to be hoovering up all the businesses in The Port and was after the fishing cottage at the start of the pinewalk. Some on here were horrified at the thought of this cottage being turned into another Tex Mex. My take on it was and still is that the public gets what the public wants and if they didnt want it the business would fail. The tex mex guy still owns it as far as I know although it isnt a Tex mex anymore.

The demise of O Lume is a great example of this IMO. A restaurant that was highly rated on here didnt seem to set the heather on fire with others (certainly any time i was in it was quiet) and ultimately it failed. On the other hand the tex mex guy seems to go from strength to strength. There is room in PP for all tastes IMO but to be honest some people on this forum are quick to rubbish the less salubrious establishments when in reality it seems to be them that ticks the boxes for your typical PP holidaymaker.

I'm a bit confused too. Mallorquin cuisine is not so different from ours and even the most typically authentic restaurants would always have simply cooked chicken, lamb chops or steak. Of course PP has to move with the times and some locals love Burger King, Chinese and Indian food as much as we all do. But surely most visitors want PP's traditional eateries to outnumber the ubiquitous ones.

I'm beginning to regret voicing my opinion now

In order to continue as a successful, thriving resort I believe that it should cater for most if not all tastes. At the present time I think it does - there is a good balance. To continue to do so it may have to adapt, change slightly, become more flexible to in order to ensure that enough visitors come each year.

I'm genuinely not sure why this is confusing some people - it seems a straightforward opinion to me albeit not one that everybody or anybody has to agree with
