Couldn't get a single free bed by mid morning yesterday along the pine walk - certainly very busy up that end. We usually sit to the right of the Marina, looking out to sea, and agree most being utilised in that area too.

Sunbeds

I'm in PP now. We've been out all day and it's now 6.15pm and still beautifully sunny. Most of the sun beds are empty now. If we were to sit on them would we be expected to pay? I would hate to just have a quick 30 mins at the end of the day and then be asked for full payment.
Does anyone know if there is a cutoff point? A bit like 'free parking' after a certain time?

The beach boys finish for the day around 4.30 but they are still charging €15 even if they nab you at that time. For years there has been a 50% discount after 3pm but that has stopped this year and it's a bit steep to expect people to pay for a whole day late in the afternoon. We only got nabbed once in 5 weeks as we used to go down to the beach at 4ish :p

Sunbeds

Thank you for your quick reply. I think I'll just sit on the sand!!! I would feel really cheated if I had to pay a full day rate so late in the day. IT's not worth the hassle! A half day rate would be perfect but I guess it would be rather tricky for them to monitor.

Sitting on the balcony at Iru apartments and new sunbeds have just been put out, great day for trying them out with rain on the way.

Too many beds and brollies?

I wonder if there are more beds and brollies this year, particularly on the narrow 'Pine Walk' beaches?

There seemed little 'free beach' space for people to throw a towel down and have a couple of hours of bronzying or for the kids to do things they do on beaches - build castles, kick a ball, beach tennis, run about a bit.

The view from the Miramar was obstructed by a forest of south sea floaty type umbrellas - no sea or bay to be seen.

I'm not objecting to 'beds and brollies' per see, just querying the apparent - not noticed last year - density of them.

Are the council 'packing 'em in' to maximise income after a slow start this season?

I think you're right that there are more umbrellas ...and they are much closer together

The amount of brollies and beds is governed by the contract with numbers quoted for designated areas and the new parasols are part of the upgrade requested by the council.

The cost is €16 for 1 bed and brolly, 2 beds and brolly €22, no half days and must take a brolly. The new beds are metal and heavy they're also locked to the brolly. The kids will miss making their huts. The grass is being pulled out of the brollies by bored kids today. I do understand about the blocked view, we were at Corb Mari the other day and there was nothing to see except the brollies, used to be a lovely view of the water and beach.

Is this going all the way down the beach ?

We were saying when we were there this year how much better it was without chained beds As they were dangerous I felt when the chain was buried in the sand

22 Euros a day does seem an awful lot 15 was bad enough compared to other places we visit !

It's getting a bit silly now

I'm sorry if I'm misreading posts but are 2 beds and parasol on beach 22 euros or 15?

I think the new ones are 22, the standard ones on the main beach were 15 when we were there

Don't know if they are just going to be at this end, or going to be changed the whole way down. Maybe chain was the wrong word, it's one of those light weight plastic covered high strength bicycle types, and its high so not hidden in the sand. The price is totally ridiculous can't see many paying the €15 or €22, certainly a family couldn't afford those prices for 2 weeks.

The point I was making earlier was that the number of beds and brollys this year seemed to cover most of the beach - particularly further up the Pine Walk where the beach is narrower i.e. along by Little Italy and beyond.

There seemed to be little alternative room if you decided not to use the 'beds and brollys'.

We only use the South beach near the Sea Bar and there was plenty of room there for peoples own facilities and as I have said before we thought more people were doing their own thing this year

We did pay the 15 Euros and thought it was a lot but we are only 2 and if you have to pay for a family for 2 weeks !!!

I think if this rise continues you will see more of the front line shops having a better selection of sun beds for sale

Yes Clinkham I do agree the beaches seem to have been reorganised with the beds closer together but taking up more space, and little free beach available for those who don't want to pay silly prices and use their own seats, or for the children to play. I have noticed they are also closer to the Miramar where residents used to move their hotel sunbeds onto the beach, no room for that now. Concerted effort to make money perhaps, who knows? I just won't be paying, but like everyone will be enjoying the lovely beach and gorgeous sea without a care in the world.

Hi

Does anyone know if you can pay for the week, you used to be able to do this then the beds were reserved for you for the week.

They stopped the offer of being cheaper for so many days last year and this year they stopped the half day price Which is a shame as a lot of people only wanted half a day while it was cooler

Certainly a saga this year ! Unfortunately where we stayed in June there arent any beds or even chairs to take to the beach but in September fingers crossed we have a few terraces and lots of beds so might just walk down for a swim if its 22 Euros !

Wanting to be "premium" and stepping over the line towards greed and rip-off.
