Re O Lume

Hi Rob, yes, it's open every day, lunch and evening meal

Re: Re O Lume

We are back in PP in three weeks so will definitely try O Lume as it sounds very nice. Its always good to know of different places to eat and amazes me that every year you find, or hear on this site of another one tucked away in the back streets! These hidden little gems are the ones that the locals frequent and are usually the best.

Can't wait

Re: Re O Lume

Just found where it is and will give it a try maybe even tonight!

This is not meant to tease all you in the UK!

I tell it as it is!;)

Wall to wall blue sky right now as I look out of El Pozo!

regards to all!:D

Re: Re O Lume

Agree with all the praise O Lume is getting, it has great food and great service all it needs is more custom. So keep spreading the word everyone because as mentioned earlier there are enough poor to average restaurants doing well to risk losing this gem.

Re: Re O Lume

I spoke to a "big guy" on this site the other day and he said that they had looked in, but not eaten there because there were not many people in. So if he had gone in, there would have been two more.
If none of us had gone to Balaixa, or Trencadora, how would they have fared, and what would we have missed. So get in there guys, and enjoy. Me, I'm back there next week!!:b :b

o lume

eventually got to try this on Thursday evening
quite busy
and service a bit relaxed
food excellent
def worth another visit :)

Re: o lume

Well done Smiddy. Next time you're out here, let's all go together.;)

Yes we tried last Wednesday and get in there guys it is well worth a visit.

Will report later.

Take your big appetite with you and the service is impeccable.

Do not lose this place guys!:eek

Got to get my hair done now going out for a big night tonight!
Meeting Snowy and Hiker Biker in El Posito Tonight!!:rollin

We had sussed it out on the morning we went and had asked if we needed to book. The answer was not for two in the week but safer to do in the weekend.

The mistake we made was having a good sized lunch that day. Do not do this when going!

Total of twelve in including ourselves. Very nicely presented table ,cutlery, crockery and glassware.

We opted for the Menu del Dia which is available both at lunch and for dinner, and chose a bottle of the House White, sorry Jane! As a house wine excellent!

A G and T each as we perused and the wine was put in an ice bucket on the other side of the table from me. This was not a problem as we were attended to very carefully and topped up as required.

While waiting you get an appetiser of two little potato balls deep fried, with a hint of fish, then the bread rolls come served with butter curls of three different butters.

As we were later to discover these on top of our lunch was taking up capacity for later!

Choice of two starters and two mains.

Porto-Tagliatelle Four cheeses.Lovely but filling.
Sherry-Chicken and mushroom in a puff pastry. This again was beautiful but not at all vol o vent size more like a main!

Now mains
Porto-Three fried fish pieces set on a base of lyonaisse potatoes ,each piece topped by a folded rasher of very nice back bacon and a small selection of vegetables.
Sherry-Ragout of pork in a creamy mushroom sauce accompanied by sliced boiled potatoes and again a selection of vegetables.

For postre we both had a blancmange set on a biscuit base and with a raspberry or similar sauce.

Wasn't scribbling in to the pad guys sorry!

And all the time your wine and water wonderfully replenished.

Coffee and the hand made chocolates to finish.

Quite yummy!:p

Ex the tip the bill was only 43 Euros.

Now as I have said and others too who have been support this place. It is a very pleasurable experience.
Many of us will testify to that not least my friend Snowy and his team!:rollin

So do it!:eek

Hi Porto!

I really enjoyed reading your post! Made me very hungry.

We will have to try this restaurant when we are next over.

And don't apologise for choosing the house wine!

Talk soon
Jane:D

Thought good idea to also place my post from Our Choice here

Friday – O Lume

A little more busy, Hikerbiker taking one table, requested Large Prawns as starter for 5 off us not on the Menu (By the way you can have half portions of starters) so we asked for half portions I had 10 King Prawns grilled wonderful, Three of us had Tee Bone Steak off the bone very good mine could have been cooked a touch more best to ask for medium not medium rare, Three had Chicken in white wine sauce.
To full for sweets so we had Irish coffees and others, followed by the customary liqueur. For drinks we had bottle of house red and white, water and two large beers.
Bill came to Inc tip 180€.

This place is only in its first year please support you will not be disappointed it rates amongst the best its position is its downfall back two roads from the front in Juan de la Cosa. Such nice people also, help it survive please.

You can see photo's of the food in "Our Choice"

Re: Re O Lume

We went back to O Lume this Monday ( 24th Oct ) ....... having found the place when we were over in June.

I am really pleased to say that on a Monday evening in late October, there were 23 people eating in this wonderful restaurant. Though speaking to the owner, he did say it was still hit and miss and they still have evenings during the week where numbers are in single figures. Bearing this in mind it makes the quality of service and attention to detail all the more amazing.

Both my daughter and I went for the set menu ...... probably a mistake for her because it was far too much and she was a touch embarrassed at leaving about a third of her starter and half her main course and desert .......... we agreed that when we go again next year she is going to ask them to put less on her plate because she feels she is insulting them by not finishing.

This 18 euro feast consisted of

An appetiser of a sort of vegetable/ potato salad

A plateful of Tagliatelli in tomato and aubergine sauce ..... beautifully cooked but really a main course sized portion.

Chicken Breast in tarragon sauce with a selection of vegetables ......... the sauce was very rich and you could really taste the tarragon ...... I thought it was fantastic but it was a touch too rich for a 12 year old ........ our mistake for ordering it, though I do believe in kids and teens being encouraged to try everything.

For desert we were given pancotta ( a sort of white blamange ) with fresh fruit and a kiwi fruit and a raspberry jus

Drinks were 2 glasses of fresh orange for daughter and a large glass of very nice house ( sorry Jane ) white

We then had coffee and home made chocolates and a tia maria for me and my daughter was given a non alcoholic apple schnapps

Total bill without tip .......... 36 euros

And throughout the evening, the service was excellent and unlike our last visit, because there were lots of people in, there was a really good atmosphere

Re: Re O Lume

cd,

That is really good value for the meal you describe!

I will definitely be heading to this restaurant when we are next out.

Thanks for the review

Re: Re O Lume

cd

I was really disappointed we never made it to O Lume..my husband was busy drilling through water pipes the evening we had planned to go :eek ! and we had to make do with a take away curry from the Kashmir !

Definitely top of our list next visit..sounds brilliant and very reasonable. Do you know if they are open all year?

Re: Re O Lume

Debs!

What a mistake you made.

You must go next time!

Our own experience and reading other's tales make this a must.

Sorry you missed it but you have to do it next time OK?

Re: Re O Lume

Well folks what can I say about O' Lume that hasn't already been said?.
We have added O' Lume to our expanding list of "Places where we must eat at when in PP".
Jaime I know you read the form and can I thank you for being the perfect host, as I told you I know for a fact that by the end of next season you'll be having to turn us away.

For the people who have yet to try the delights of O'Lume, can I say your in for a treat. The food is out of this world, everything we ate there was perfect, the ambiance, the host everything made eating out at O'Lume a wonderful enjoyable experience.

Don't miss out on this place!

Jaime we'll be back very soon, remember to always keep "robjay" a table:rollin

Re: Re O Lume

Went to O Lume in October, a few weeks before Rob's visit. It was by far the best full course dinner in PP. The service, ambiance, presentation, quality and value (as well as Jaime's ever-present hospitality) were unmatched. Though I expect this restaurant to become extremely popular (and the dinner tab to rise accordingly), I hope to make many return visits in the future.

Re: Re O Lume

It was so nice on this cold day to re-read the reviews on O lume and to see so many friends old and new writting about one of our favorite places.
Anybody been to O'Lume since this last review? Who will be first to write a review on O'lume 2006?. I for one can't wait to take my daughters here when we visit.
Take care.
