What there is on the town hall's website in respect of the square is the announcement of works for the improvement of water resources and energy management - at a cost of 400,000 euros. From what I can make out, there is no other work contracted.

Ah Andrew, improvement of the water resources is government speak for a fountain, slap bang in the middle of the square!

Adios
Dave

With the market being in the car park, lets hope the work s finished befor ethe start of the season or it will be bedlam for those looking for somewhere to park on market day

Also, I hope the renovations don;t mean there is noroom in the square for the dancing during the fiesta ..... I love to watch them all dancing well into the night

Yes a lorry load of barriers and pipework was delivered this morning ,using the parking area of the renovated school to house things at the moment. For those of you living in or arounf the Cadernera, (Ikebana end) they have started to lift the tarmac . I presume to start the regeneration work on the drains and lights. Is there an election coming up ??

At last work has begun in earnest in the square with railings and seats being removed this morning. :D

Any news if the removal of the railings is permanent , I always thought they spoilt the square, it seemed more open and spacious when they weren't there?

I see your point SWS but if they are going to spend a lot of money on grass, plants and shrubs it would be a shame to have it ruined by children and animals running riot through it all, so railings may well be needed to protect it.

True Story re. 'The Square'.
About 15 - 20 years ago, we arrived in P.P. by coach from the airport (in the days when we used the Puerto Azul) and stopped to drop someone off in / at the square.
The L/A gardeners had just finished an upgrade and were just seeding the soiled areas.
During our holiday these areas were tended and watered with much TLC.
After our two week hol' we were picked up by the coach... then made the pick up in / at the square. Those same gardeners were cutting the grass! YES the first cut after just 2 weeks due to ideal growing conditions! The square was really looked after in those days.
(p.s. my wife - a keen gardener - did repairs to our lawn a couple of years ago and cut the grass after about 3 weeks... and we are in the north of England! Again, it got lots of TLC.)

Agreed, what about a compromise, fences around the garden areas but the central grass and path areas open, it is just that recently you feel fenced in a forced to walk around the outside and not use the whole square, and where the table are both sides of the path you have to walk between the diners and the way tables were encroaching you were literally arm to arm with them. Is there a plan or document somewhere detailing what there are doing?

I have not been able to find anything yet, i was unable to go to the meeting in Bar Cultural but my neighbours are quite happy with the plan.

Thats good, it will be great to catch up with the changes next time we are over.

Yes, hopefully it will be finished by then .....in the meantime i will take pics of anything worth seeing ;).

Maybe if you have a spare moment Sparky you could ask your neighbours what they saw on the plan?

Hopefully there will be some grassed areas as it was a bit harsh looking before.........as long as they fence it off to stop dogs using it as a toilet.

Anyway, whatever happens it must be an improvement and is a step in the right direction.

Nick, they said the "landscaping" looked good so i assume that means garden areas. There is going to be a lot of new lighting and also new drainage (not just the square but surrounding streets as well) which will alleviate flooding when we have heavy rain. ;)

Thanks Sparky. It desperately needed "greening" up so that with new lighting should look very nice.
Cheers.

Work in the Square

Went down to the Square yesterday. In the week since work `began!´they have managed to put up a few barriers and warning signs and dig a small hole (outside of the cordoned off area !!!) Doesn´t look good for the finished in 2 months claim.

I agree with you Deanscroft but didn't really expect it to be much different ....the weather is ideal now so you would think that they would be really cracking on with it wouldn't you?.
