Went down to the Square yesterday. In the week since work `began!´they have managed to put up a few barriers and warning signs and dig a small hole (outside of the cordoned off area !!!) Doesn´t look good for the finished in 2 months claim.

Wow,

You should have seen the M25 widening near us last year ( or three to be precise ) . Positive progress indeed !!!

BonysLad :D

Puerto Pollensa market on the move.
This is the main story in the latest edition of Talk of the North which has a picture of the market in the car park and the article goes on to explain about the renewal work in and around the square, now i know this isn't news to us but what is news is that it reports the contract for the project is for 6 months . It gives Pollensa council's website Benvinguts a Pollença which i had a look at and it does indeed say on there that the contract lasts that long.
Lets hope they are just being very cautious and covering their backs in case it overruns .

If it means that the port is improved then it's worth waiting for. Needs to be brought a little more upmarket in my opinion so can only be good. Alcudia Port is looking pretty good these days!

Well i walked through the square (camera in hand) an hour ago, i am afraid there was nothing worth taking a pic of. Two guys were ripping out a seat opposite Bony's, some others were digging a trench in front of the church but i had to laugh, there are barriers stopping people walking through the centre of the square but nothing is being done there...........YET!!!.

Im getting worried - we are due out in May; no square and they have dug up the gardens and pool complex at the Play Mar - seems like we may be holidaying in a building site:(

Hi Bluestar i am sure it will all be fine by the time you arrive. There has been many occasions when i have thought "that will never be finished on time" but the Spanish do have a knack of pulling the rabbit out of the hat. ;)

It looks as though the work is being concentrated on the square at the moment,as the pipes are to be laid right along that road. I suspect they will endeavour to finish the square before the season. They have removed a couple of palm trees this morning which as far as I am aware were alright so one imagines they are also preparing the garden areas for something new. Will keep a watch to see if any of the other trees are removed.

Yes Lollipop hubby said about the trees, i don't know if they were infected or not but they looked quite healthy :(. Oh well!! i suppose you have to break eggs to make an omelette ;), must say though i was surprised that they were working in this awful weather.

I was quite impressed about that and also that they have perhaps removed the trees rather than complete the works and then find they need to. I hope they will replace with something not prone to beetles!!

Thanks for posting Sparky, thats one hell of a water feature
Its so sad to see the trees gone :(

Thanks for the pics Sparky.

Informative but heartbreaking at the moment.........looks like a bomb site and the grey/wet weather doesn't help.

I'm sure it will turn out for the best in the end though.

Thanks sparky although those pics didn't really cheer me up!!

Hopefully they know what they are doing and all will look great when they've finished the work!

Oh dear!!!! sorry guys i didn't mean to depress or worry you i just thought it would be interesting to have a "during and after" record .
By the way, Bonyslad, no sign of WMDs yet.;)

Its ok Sparky, its just a bit of a shock seeing it like that, please keep the pictures coming, as you say before and after. The weather was also a shock, some of us summer stalwarts wouldn't have seen it like that, although I am starting to doubt your weather reports, perhaps far from being a warm and sunny winter it might have been like this all the time :p

Ditto to the above comment......

It will all come good in the end !!!

Sparky,

Thanks for the photos , it's great that you can update us in this way.

Don't relax on the WMDs , there might be more clues in this weeks edition.

That's why I will be watching in extra slow time ;);)

BonysLad :)

Thanks for the photos you work really hard for us all. I remember when there were no fences and my kids played football with the local kids all round the square I hope it's like like that again.

Thanks for the pics Sparky like others I am sure it will look great when it is finished, it DID need doing...yes pips I remember our young'uns playing football/ball with the local kids many moons ago...then getting a lolly from the chap in the handbag shop...ahh happy days.
