Great photos sws97sdg. The square does look better to me, more open as lollipop said. But i will find out for myself, in May!! :)

That's a great idea. I can just see a statue of Jose there :). As hero's come, they dont come any bigger.

When they dug up the old drains they were blocked with thousands of boiled sweets. I wonder how they got there ?

The Square

I know the kids in the square all like to run around and play etc, fair do's, but it really is a bit pointless trying to lay grass and plants if there are no controls in place to avoid them being trampled and destroyed in no time. I've witnessed it countless times over the years, it's a total waste of time and money.

Really!! From what i have seen in the past there are never any left as the kids dont miss any:)

From the pictures on here its looks better and im sure the change will be for the better.

Totally agree Smiddy...grass looks lovely but it is very high maintenance especially in the Mallorcan heat. Noticed last week seed had been sown instead of laying turf so it has no chance of growing....plus parents seemed to be ignoring the "'Keep 0f The Grass' signs and letting their ' little darlings' () trample all over it!!!!

I vaguely recall being with some friends, years ago, and a lady was complaining to some parents who were just sitting watching kids (not locals) play football in the grass areas:eek: She was from some "friends of the square group", but no doubt she gave up hope years ago.

They were watering the new plants and trees every day but obviously it was not neccessary over Easter as nature was taking care of it.
As for the kids running riot over the area, well once again we come down to parents not teaching them to respect their surroundings :(.

Re. respect of surroundings. Too true, it starts as soon as they are born. Or should do!

Yeah,

And they were digging a big hole outside of Nostalgia earlier.

Must be looking for all those dropped notes from the Karaoke performers !!

BonysLad ;)

Ah! yes Colin and Michaela had asked the council to move the light as it was in the middle of their terrace which made it difficult for disabled customers to get in.;)

That's good news Sparky,

Sounds like Snowy will be able to drive his mobility scooter straight in .

Save me lifting him out as usual

Mind you

He ain't heavy , he's my bruver !!

BonysLad :D

Could only happen here. Got to the serious part of the ceremony today when the young couple were about to exchange their vows when the peace and solemnity were totally shattered by a pneumatic drill removing the lamppost opposite as part of the square upgrade.

Nearly through a bucket of water over 'em !!

BonysLad

Didn't Camilla look lovely ??

Sorry to say we were not particularly impressed with the work done in the square.:( I do hope that it will look a lot better characterwise when its finished. On the upside though there is a lot more room!;)

Sparky. Do you think it'll be finished by late May? I really dont want to see alot of rubble around there when i come. Have a word, pleeease. Looking foward to see the changes though.

Work in town square

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what work is taking place in the square at the moment. I am coming over in 3 weeks for my wedding and having read some of the posts, I'm concerned that I am going to be walking out of the church on to a building site! Any info would be great!

Debs
I wouldn't worry, the bulk of the work is done and I am sure that it will all be finished by the time you come. It certainly doesn't look like a building site.

Good to hear! I was panicking slightly! What have they been doing to the square?:)

I have to say that I agree with belladonna, the square, apart from the downsizing of the green areas, does not look any different, they have now sewn seeds which will not last long and the same fences are being replaced which does not keep any children out who will still play football there and ruin any possible improvement that may come about if the grass is allowed to grow, if there is to be no control within the area then there is no point in planting the seeds. I do hope that they replace the compass rose showing the various wind names which has been removed. As an aside, they are starting to lay the the tarmac in the surrounding roads tomorrow according to one of the local police.

Lets make the square children free then and ban them!!!! lol
