Renovation of The Square

Just got back from 9 days in PP. The square looks no better IMO.

The "crazy paving" is old fashioned and looked harsh and poorly laid. The only difference that I can see is more concrete. They've re-used the same fencing and planted a few trees but that's about it.

The "star sign" thing has gone, hopefully they'll replace it with something similar or re-lay it. It was the only attractive thing there!!

Good news is that they've dug up the old dead tree stumps adjacent to the church and planted new trees there. I hope the grass does come through because personally I think the more greenery the better.

Maybe when new benches and lighting is installed it will look much better??

I believe it really needs a "wow factor" centre piece like a fountain say?

Time will tell....

Well, we'll just have to wait to see when the work is finished, can't make a true comment until then, and we get there in August to see for ourselves.

Sparky, have they re-tarmaced all of C/Metge Llopis do you know?

Cheers.

It looks like the tarmac will be laid as far as the crossroad stopping just across from the park area before you get to Mirch Massala and Trio.

Lots of activity in the square today, mainly in the centre, they are obviously preparing the area for surfacing but i still don't know what . Some of the new lights have been fitted (just the frames, no shades yet), a couple of guys are still painting the fences, others are planting in the garden areas and a couple more are going around with a wheelbarrow full of cement, tidying up around the old paving.

Saw the sweetest - non health and safety - thing in the square last week whilst sitting in Maxims with a fresh orange and a pastry in the early morning sunshine -yes, the day we went home!

A young couple came up with their toddler, picked him up, put him in the driving seat of an unattended digger and took photos of him!
Everyone stopped and looked at him beaming away - little toddler playing in a big boys toy.
Never going to happen here - and perhaps that is wise - but was all the more cute to see it there.;)

I don't believe it !

See the local political parties have strung their banners across the square now.
How any reputable political party could associate themselves with this debacle is totally beyond me.

Sparky, shall we form a local Monster Raving Loony Party ?

BonysLad :D

Bella,

That kid could be a grown man by the time the digger moves !!

BL, please behave.....i am already in trouble for allowing too much banter on the forum and now you are starting to drag politics into it.

P.S. The nice new blind and of course your toldos passed muster today ;).

Fascinated as to what will be in the middle where the old star/compass thing was.......we ought to have a sweepstake !!!!

I don't believe it !

Told by a very reliable source tonight that the wrong 'heads' to the new lampposts have been delivered. As a consequence they are going to get bodged and then replaced at the end of the season !!

Nick and Paula,

Can I suggest the tomb of the project manager for the centre spot !!

BonysLad

Heads may roll!
I know of a very good project manager that may be interested in taking over the job!!;)

LOL! There are some very pretty wellies around I'll have you know! Not sure about the hard hats though!:D

So much negativity guys!! ok it might not be perfect but it isn't finished yet. At least the new improved drainage means the square and surrounding areas won't get flooded.

Well Done Sparky, you just said what I was thinking and no we don't have on rose tinted spctacles but we should look for the plus signs.

Really sorry if I 've come over all negative on this one but merely stating what a lot of people are saying on the ground.

I love this place with all my heart but I love it warts n all.

It ain't Disneyworld , as you both agree, but a living ,working community where good folk are trying to do their best to provide services to many visitors and they deserve better,IMO,from the support given by the local Council.

Businesses were promised completion by Easter and market stall holders promised faithfully that they would return to the square by last Wed ???

We all agree and larf about the clowns running the beach services so don't really see why the Square should be 'off limits' ?

Sparky,

Don't put them spectacles on this afternoon at the Fira!

Prawn sandwiches I could just about cope with, but Rosados and you .NEVER !

Hasta las trades, mi amiga

BonysLad :):)

LOL @ BL, ok mi amigo i don't want to have a macia BATLE with you over it, as i said, it isn't perfect but just think we should wait until it's finished before we pass judgement. Yes it has taken longer than they said but that's Spain for you.
As for the beach, what's to complain about.....the beds and brollies were out for the start of the season and they are free at the moment. It is crazy that they have this fuss every year but this year the early tourists can enjoy the beach blissfully unaware of any problems.
Hasta luego amigo .

I have just found this post from February 10th ;).

Puerto Pollensa market on the move.
This is the main story in the latest edition of Talk of the North which has a picture of the market in the car park and the article goes on to explain about the renewal work in and around the square, now i know this isn't news to us but what is news is that it reports the contract for the project is for 6 months . It gives Pollensa council's website Benvinguts a Pollença which i had a look at and it does indeed say on there that the contract lasts that long.
Lets hope they are just being very cautious and covering their backs in case it overruns .
