We’d had a recommendation for their paella and you’ve gotta have a paella when you’re on holiday anywhere in Spain. We’d popped in a couple of days before to make a reservation but there seemed to be a bit of confusion when we turned up. We were there in the diary. And we were there on the list of the day’s bookings – but it looked like they’d given our table to someone else (no, we weren’t late). Place was full but they dragged another table out and set it up.

A couple of salads to start. One was a plain green one. The other, white asparagus (from a tin, of course), served cold with mayo and a little mixed salad. Both fine and making their contribution to our “five a day”.

Then the house paella – flavoursome rice, with the addition of mussels, rabbit, squid, crab claw, prawns and green beans. It was almost everything you want from a paella. The only thing missing was the “socarrat” – the crusty bit at the bottom of the pan that marks out a top notch version. But this w as pretty good.

We finished with good café solo.
