Haven't seen it (my daughters in the port at the moment so will ask her view when she returns)....
but my view is this...why don't people who like such facilities just holiday where they already exist? the island has loads of resorts catering for such needs, but very few resorts cater for those of us who don't want such additions.
The argument that it is being well used is superfluous - if you imported the worse bar from magaluf to PP it would be frequented - but that wouldn't mean it should be in situ....an exaggerated example to illustrate the point.
The business owner who is pleased with the addition should be aware if PP trys to attract a certain cliente group - they may just lose the existing cliente group to the likes of Port de Soller

OK up to now I have stayed out of this one but I feel I need to throw my hat in. When I first heard about this I was very concerned as I did not want my PP spoiled. And as a Boat owner I am always even more concerned about what is going on in the water.
But I have to be honest and tell you I have seen it on a number of occasions now through the summer and not only does it not look bad or tacky, in my opinion it actually looks good and fits in well and appears to be well run and being used by young and old and family's. It is a great attraction that will only encourage people to return to PP. Family's can let the Children enjoy the fun while chilling with a drink at the very close Embat Bar.
So I urge you all do not Judge or imagine this to be some kind of massive fun fair attraction. it is no more intrusive than other inflatables and boats out in the water. Remember its all very well to be elitist but for the resort to survive it has to cater for many people and I think this fits in well with our tranquil PP while offering the opportunity for the young and young at heart to let of some steam and have fun in the sea in safety.
So please don't any body Judge or get worked up until you see it first hand. My guess is most will sit and have a drink watching people playing on it and thing hmmm think I may like a turn on that :) :)

I do have to admit that it is not as bad as you'd probably imagine and, being inflatable, can easily be removed and won't be there after the end of the season. It's also another taxable source of revenue for the port.

However, my main worry is that it may set a precedent and what will be next? If you start getting similar things then the beautiful vista will disappear.

Overall my opinion hasn't changed and my thoughts are that it's best elsewhere.

We also need to remember that there are a lot of youngsters who actually live here and they too need to be occupied through much longer school holidays than exist in the UK.

I very good point lollipop and one I go along along with 100 o/o. Us holidaymakers are only there for a short time!!
I seen it only once while I was passing one late evening, other than that I would never have known about it other than reading this thread of course.:)
Fil6699.... Glad to hear about your change of heart and sharing it with us. I agree with every word, thought that area was looking really great this year with the two new beach bars and little play area for the kids.

I'm also one for a bit of a quiet life whilst I am in PP. It really is a tonic to be there.
But..... things have continued to change over the last 20 years or more that I have known PP and I am sure will continue to do so..... in fact it's natural that it will do.
I have seen changes in the amount of rentable accommodation in PP, the increase in the number of Hotels, the changes in the choice / type of restaurants and bars, the changes in shops / supermarkets, the changes in the road system / pedestrianisation (including better / quicker access via the motorway from Palma) and in fact the changes to the harbour / marina and also to the actual beach itself from the harbour down to Llenaire.
Thankfully things are still pretty good at present and 'nobody' (presumably locals and present visitors) would want another 'Alcudia' (or similar) where we presently have PP. We will just have to hope that the Local Authority think on similar lines and that they are 'somewhat choosy' at what they will allow in PP in future years. Property-wise I'm sure it will get bigger! Just look a Google Maps (satellite view) and see the areas either being developed or still to develop - there is still quite a way to go!

Water Parks on the beaches

We know this was a touchy subject last year for some ! We were wondering if anyone had seen or heard if the inflatable had been erected on the beach again this year.It was opposite Hotel Uyal.

There is one up in ALcudia - looks very similar to the one in PP last year

Rumour has it that the one in PP was stored next to the tennis courts and was sadly eaten by goats. Of course I have nothing to back up these rumours...

I think after the initial fears it turned out to be an asset to the port didn't it, everyone seemed to have fun there!! I assume it will be back again, a large outlay just to use it once!

I don't think it was purchased by the council SWS, they just awarded the licence to a company called Glide Sports SL who provided all the equipment.

Hi Sparky, i assumed it was the beach company who bought it, unless they made enough money last year not to worry about the start up costs!!

I could be wrong but i don't think it has anything to do with "The Association of Residents of Port de Pollença " who operate the beds, brollies and upkeep of the beach contract :).

Well my kids are chomping at the bit to get back on it ! so are the rest of the local kids they know , its just my wallet
thats not looking forward to it .......
