Hopefully, the council will repeat there previous stance when the contract was awarded for 4 years before needing to go to tender .

Re post #37 - but nobody can control the sun and rain; more of an "act of god".

Beds and brollies are totally controllable; more of an "inaction of the Council".

Wholly unacceptable for early season visitors; (and lost income for the Council).

The council don't lose anything, nor do Costas. It's the people who win the franchise that do, that is, of course, the council don't decide to run it themselves.

It's beyond a joke all this nonsense now. I said some time ago that the beach MUST be prepared for when the first tourist arrives. Never mind the weather, when a season starts, who's got the contract nonsense. It's pathetic and that along with the ignorant type of cyclists will start putting off tourists.

No other beach area in Spain is so unprepared for tourists. Add to that the fact that no one even bothers to clean the beaches. Not good.

No other beach!! have you checked every single one?

I'm sorry sws but when people are paying top dollar to go to a resort, for a holiday they may have saved all year for, they expect to have sunbeds on the beach. I don't understand why you think think is even defensible.

My response was mearly a question to Nick concerning his statement that no other beach in Spain was as unprepared, ideally the beds should be out for the start of the main season

In my humble opinion the council in PP only want the income from tourists and could not give a dam about the welfare or happiness of there guests (sun beds & brollies). What have the local police done about the cyclists riding the wrong way down the front or indeed cycling in prohibited areas, nothing. So very sad it going like this we spend 5 to 6 weeks a year in PP love the place to bits but as I have said before it is going down hill fast.

Nick I am not sure the comment about not cleaning the beaches is actually correct , the beaches were being cleaned even back in March

Can I also say I really don't understand this obsession with beds and Brollies.

Yes I do agree, if they are to be made available for tourists then they should be available for the start of the season ...... But personally I think the beaches look nicer without them and would prefer to see less of them so that the natural beauty and vista that we see off season is also available to people who only get over in the season.

PP and north Majorca has so much to offer ...... But we seem to get all of a tizz about this subject every single year as though the presence of beds and Brollies is one of the most essential things about a holiday in early May

The big green beach cleaning machine was on the beach last tuesday.
He was there just after 7am.
We departed after nine and he was working hard.
When we get back in 4 weeks All the pavements will be finished, all the cyclists will have gone home, The wind will have dropped, The tourist tax will have come in!!!! And us two again will be CONTENTED

Cd I agree with you the beaches look wonderful without beds and brollies, and if you're not fussed about sitting on the beach they wouldn't seem important. You have contradicted yourself though by saying if they are to be made available they should be there at the start of the season. That's why people are getting in a tizz!

PP is first and foremost a beach resort, and not to have beds is unacceptable. For many people they come to PP and want to spend the entire time on the beach sunbathing and swimming, and will be very disappointed and annoyed that they aren't there yet. For those people it is an essential part of their holiday, and remember for some it may be physically impossible to lie on a towel on the sand.

Agree with Debz not everyone is able to get themselves up and down on the sand but love to be on the beach. We have had the beds and brollies up by mid April for the last four years but the new council have really messed up with putting the contract out to tender, i just hope it is done soon.

I think we are all forgetting that part of designating the contract has to go via Madrid, and that since the calling of the last elections, held on 21st Devember 2015, Spain STILL hasn't got a government.

Fair enough if the cleaning machine is out then. I've never seen one but there you go. I've never seen one out in the height of the season when it needs to be done as well.

Just my opinion.

So why is it that other municipalities have got their beaches all ready for the season start Molt ?.

Also, a council member has admitted that they did not put the tender out in January, which is when it should have been done. The UMP expressed concern on the 15th March about this issue.

In season it is often done very early in the morning ;).

If we are all in a tizz think about the poor guys who have had the contract previously who are at the moment kicking their heels and then have to work to get them out when a decision is made.

Absolutely Lollipop, they have done such a good job in the last four years and i really hope they are awarded the contract, they deserve it :).

"Chaos" of Puerto Pollensa beach services » Balearics » News » Majorca Daily Bulletin
...
Under the list of contracts out for tender, there wasn't one for beach services for the current season.

Now, both the Unió Mollera Pollencina (UMP), the Puerto Pollensa party, and Tots per Pollença, the grouping led by former mayor Tomeu Cifre, have made clear their thoughts on the matter. Cifre says, and this is what the evidence of the website suggested, that the tender hasn't yet been raised, meaning - obviously - that the process for awarding the concession has not begun. He also says that the town hall administration did not seek new authorisation from the Costas Authority until the end of January, when this would normally be done in November. (The national government Costas needs to give authorisation when new contractual arrangements are being made.) Cifre sums up the situation as "total chaos".

The UMP, meanwhile, which has one councillor and forms part of what is otherwise an administration dominated by the left-wing Junts Avançam, has described the situation as "regrettable".

I am sure that they will not be so slow in getting the tourist tax implemented like all governing bodies they don't forget to send you your bill or have it collected on there behalf.
just my opinion.:(
