Renovation of The Square

Hi littlejohn, as i said on Thursday there is not much to report. They are still doing the new drainage work although that is pretty much completed at the top end of the square ie in front of the church. I will post more pics as and when there is anything worth photographing.

A new trench has been dug in front of La Piazza but so far still no change in the centre of the square.

Today they are removing a few more trees. This will make a bigger area in the centre of the square which will give more room for the children to run,

Been chatting to my sister on the phone, so couldn't answer ...glad you enjoyed Ladies

Great photos favies! You have really summed up the beauty of PP and reminded us that there really is nowhere else quite like it :)

Thanks Ladies.....you are quite right Debs....I have tried looking and there isn't, is there.....lots of Beautiful places, yes, but not with the same magnetic charm of PP.:)

Blocks being relaid along the area in front of the Bar Cultural and Makassar while on the other side of the square they are removing soil from one of the fenced areas. So hopefully we will soon see what the result will be.

Sparky - I agree with you about the healthy trees being cut down - it is sad. I just cant help feeling that losing too many of the trees will change (spoil?) the whole character of the square. :(

It's really hard to see what they've got in mind here... presumably somewhere there is a landscape architect's drawing showing a beautiful transformation! I hope they don't put the railings back as they always gave it rather a hostile, municipal feel.

Rosie,

Let's wait and see. Have seen the council plant nearly fully grown trees before so all is not lost. Be interested to know whether there is an architectural plan around though .

BonysLad :)

Unfortunately i have not been able to find any drawings or plans as to how the finished product will look :rolleyes:. It breaks my heart to see trees die and it's worse when healthy trees are felled.
All i can do is to keep you all informed, post pics and hope it turns out well :(.

Renovation of the square

One tree seems to have escaped the axeman and that is the one that went up in January for Saint Antonio.
Perhaps as it was "planted" in a drain it will get enough water to sprout new branches.

Sparky, Thanks for the photos! They still convey what PP's like in the Winter. Strangely enough i was saying to Mrs S, today, that i was missing the lift you get when you come over, the sunshine, the brilliant light. Body and soul missing it!

Well, they certainly like digging !!!

Thanks for the pics Sparky and please keep the info./updates coming.

Cheers.
