We've just returned from a weekend in London and while there we visited Vinopolis in Southwark.
I can heartily recommend a visit whether you know nothing or everything about wine.
We took the Explorer ticket (£20) which included 5 wine tastings, 2 premium wine tastings, a Bombay Sapphire cocktail, 2 whisky tastings, 2 absinthe tastings (caution recommended with that, as it's 68% alcohol! :eek ) and 2 beer tastings. We also received two free gifts (teeshirt plus corkscrew or a book).
We arrived there just after 1pm and spent 3 very happy hours wandering around learning all about wine and sampling the wines from around the world.
I tried a Thai rose wine and a Cabernet Sauvignon from China.
Vinopolis is beautifully set-out under the old railway bridges right on the embankment and is near Tate Modern, the London Eye and loads of tourist spots.
Plus if you go on Saturday there is the most incredible food market about 5 minutes walk away. We walked around in a daze after seeing stalls loaded with olives, different cheeses, beautiful breads, vegetables and food from almost every region you can think of! Well worth sampling before you go to Vinopolis to soak up the alcohol!
